For how long do I have to be careful of ghosting/burn in on plasma?

Today I ran into a little ghosting problem. I had a DVD running while I was at the gym and what was suppose to be a 1 hour work out turned into 2 hours. The DVD had about 2 hours worth of content on it, but when I got home I found that it had finished and was sitting at the menu. I start it up again and see the "Life" title screen ghosted against the black. I figure that it couldn't have been there longer than 15 minutes, but that was apparently enough to ghost it. At least an hour into the DVD I checked again to see if the ghosted menu screen was there, but it fortunatly gone.

So the question is how long after the break in is complete (currently around 150 hours) do I still have to worry about ghosting? The games I play have HUD elements that could easily be displayed for more than 30 minutes without changing so I haven't played. Will this constantly be an issue and if so what is my static image time limit? I have a panasonic tc-p46s2 46-inch plasma.

Not ghosting, you mean image retention. Anyways it goes away after the first 100 hours of use. (sometimes more or less, 100 is a rule of thumb)

If it's for the life of the plasma how long can an image stay static? I've read no more than 10-20 minutes during the break in, but what about after I've had it for a year? Does that number jump to like 2 hours or something?

After the firsy 100 hours there is NOTHING to worry about. I play Reach everyday for 4 hour marathons with no problems.

Yeah but he's already at 150 hours, and again the 100 hours is a rule of thumb, it doesn't apply to all plasma TVs. Not to mention ifI recall you have the VT25 which doesn't even havemany issues with IR right out of the box. If there is still a problem after the 300 hour mark (500 at most) I would advise he has it checked out / exchanged. Though that's pretty rare, but technology isn't perfect.

I'll be careful up until the 300 hour mark, but it sounds like I should be good to play black ops after the 200 hour break in.
