Hello everyone. This will be the usual "should I grab this or that part and why" - thread.

Now my time has come to build a new gaming rig, but things are, I suck at knowing what to go with.
I do have one demand though, regarding what I should opt for - it MUST max Battlefield 3 at my monitor's max resolution of 1680 x 1050 (yup, that's my top). That means the pc have to be good, if not awesome.

THIS is what I'm thinking of opting for so far (with my non-existant skills):

* Case: Cooler Master HAF X Big Tower Black
* GPU : MSI Geforce GTX 580 1536 mb Physx - "Lightning" (will overclock)
* CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 K (Will overclock, obviously)
* RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHZ 8 GB CL 9
* PSU: Corsair HX 750W
* Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO, SOCKET-1155 (This is where I truly sucks)

Now, with THIS very setup, am I set for maxing BF3 out, or do I have to go bigger and better? I don't wan't ANY LAG, STUTTER - you name it. I simply want fluid great gameplay at BF3's best. Is there anyone with a similiar setup or someone with experince that can tell me that this will do the trick or point me to something that will?

Questions regarding my setup:
- Will the gtx 580 do it? Should I by any means go for the 3gb version or would that be waste of money at my resolution? Should I go higher, choosing the GTX 590 (I've heard of things such as microstuttering though, as well as simply wasting your money at something that isn't necessary...)
- Is the RAM sufficient, both in GB as well as brand etc?
- The PSU, should I go for 850W instead of 750W?
- MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: Is the motherboard good for this build? Will it destroy my plans of overclocking etc?

THANKS in advance guys, I really need help here. Simply be honest, and I'm in your debt.:)

The build looks good, however, from a gaming-only standpoint you might aswell save some money and get the i5-2500k. Depends if you do stuff like video editing, rendering etc. And you want an aftermarket cooler for the CPU. For the other things.. - The GTX 580 will do it fine. 3GB VRAM is not needed for your resolution. - The PSU is fine, but since you say you will overclock the CPU and GPU I would personally go for a 850W just because I prefer to have headroom. - The mobo is good for overclocking.

I agree with all spittis said. And the RAM is all fine, unless you are a professional video editor. If your main goal is to max BF3 with 30+ FPS then you could drop to a 6970 and save yourself $100+. It would run fine on ultra at your resolution. But if you have the money and feel the need to spend it, go with the 580. Also, even if you have the money the 2600k is a waste, unless video editing. The 2500k will be fine for gaming for quite a while.

Yourll need a HDD too, and a nice aftermarket CPU cooler. So i would drop down to a 2500K and spend the money elsewhere.

Thanks guys for your replies. Really, thanks!=)

I did forget to mention the HDD, which I already have included; a Western Digital 1 TB (I never come close to maxing out my current 512 GB, so why bother with a 2 TB heh). And from reviews, I think it's decent enough.

However, some thoughts regarding your answers:

First and foremost, regarding the GTX 580, I actually DO feel I have the money to spend. Not saying I like to waste money or something like that, I just want to go pretty much "all-in" and be more future proof.

That leads me to my next question, regarding the 2600K, which you all pretty much tell me to ignore, in favour of the 2500K. Now, seeing as I want to be more future proof, would it still be a wise decision to go with the i7 2600k if I want the gaming rig to last longer? Will it be a good gaming CPU for the future? Or I should simply skip it altogether?

LAST THING: The aftermarket CPU cooler. I know absolutely nothing of this. Could you guys do me the kind favour to point me to something that will be doable for my Rig?

Again - thanks alot!

Aftermarket Heatsink (CM Hyper 212+) only $25 more, and much better than stock cooler.

As for the 2500k, I don't see it bottlenecking any GPUs for 2-4 generations, and for gaming the 2600k isn't much better.

And your decision to keep the 580 is a good move, I looked up a few benchmarks and the 580 delivers almost 10FPS more than the 6970 in BF3 on ultra.

TBH there is very little difference in performance between the 2500k and the 2600k for the extra money.

And i have the 212+ mentioned above, however mine sits on an amd cpu. The cooler is great, i think its still the best cooler out there for the money. Of course there are bigger and better coolers but they cost more and can interfere with the RAM slots theyre that big.
