I'm formatting and creating partitions using the Windows XP Setup CD-ROM, version 2002. Weird enough, it says my HD only has 131070 MB, roughly 129GB. The actual size of the drive is 250GB and formatted as232GB before.Anyone know what the hell could be going on?

Okay, that's really weird... have you done anything unusual to your HDD lately? Because after I installed Linux with the default settings, it totally screwed up the HDD's file system; the Windows setup CD wouldn't even boot, and I had to go in and change the size of its cylinders manually. :?

No that's normal. The first edition of XP only recognizes up to 137 GB partitions.

You need a version of XP with SP1 or SP2 to enable larger partitions.

Windows 2000 SP3 will also recognize a drive larger than 137. Fairly certain that 2000 isn't what you want to use though :)

Ahh right. Well I was hoping the 2002 version already had SP1. Will have to do some digging since I have no idea where I've left a newer one. But thanks a billion.

If you don't have a newer version of XP, you can create your own copy by slipstreaming SP2 into your old version.

Just a question though - if the Windows version is below SP1, wouldn't I need to apply any previous updates before slipstreaming SP2, or is SP2 all inclusive?

SP2 includes previous patches.
