In a perfect world, everyone would own both of these games for PC. However, I'd have to say that the multiplayer in CoD4 has more replay value than the games of The Orange Box.

Well I like COD4's multiplayer more than any of the orangeboxes but I really enjoyed the HF2 episodes and portal more than COD4. Not saying I didn't enjoy COD4 because its a great game, they are both well worth $50.

COD4 has a real short singleplayer that in my opinion is lesser than Portal/Half-life2 . Comparing TF2 to COD4 multiplayer is not an easy task and it all comes down to personal preferance as they are so different.

Singleplayer:

COD4: same ol' same ol', not much new great gameplay though.

Portal: Revolutionary, anyone who calls themselves a gamer needs to play this.

Half-Life: great story, gameplay less than COD4.

Multiplayer:

COD4: very well designed, better gamplay than orange box, but less fun. More competitive play.

TF2: more "fun" value but worse gameplay, more team oriented.

I'm an SP-only player, so I'll tell you.

Comparing Length (using normal difficulty):

The Orange Box provides about 25 hours of SP overall for all games. You will know how many hours you will play if you have played through any of the games inside:

Half Life 2 - 12 hours

Half Life 2: Episode 1 - 5 hours

Half Life 2: Episode 2 - 6 hours

Portal - 2 hours

Cross out any of the above games (because you already played them) any you can subtract the hours from the overall 25 hour experience.

Call of Duty 4 will take about 5-6 hours to complete.

Comparing the quality:

It's really just a matter of preference here.

CoD4 is for you if you want a cinematic, action-packed, fast paced on-rails shooter with little variety between the missions. You can aim down the sights of your weapon, and your weapon has a high spread level with hip-fire. You regenerate your health. There are more than 25 weapons in the game, but without much diversity and some are just variants of the same weapon.

The Orange Box provides a slightly less linear (still not particularly open-ended), slower paced campaign with a better storyline, storytelling and better characters. Health is regenerated the old way - healthpacks. There is no hip-fire spread or aiming down the sights with anything but a sniper weapon. There are only about a dozen weapons, but the diversity of weaponry is far greater than in CoD4.

I'd go for the Orange Box immediately, but that's just my opinion.

orange box has 5 of the greatest games of all time. i consider cod4 to be a great game also. however, all 5 of the games in the orange box are better than cod4.

Orange Box has 25+ hours of singleplayer and a multiplayer portion. Call of Duty 4 has maybe 6 hours of singleplayer and a multiplayer portion. Not only that but with the Orange Box you get three completely different game styIes. With CoD4 you get one styIe... and it is a boring military shooter styIe to boot.

i say Orange Box.

while COD4 has probably the best multi-player ever for an FPS game, the single player was very short and sweet. yes the campaign is good, but once you're done, you're done. arcade mode isnt really all that great either.

with Orange Box, its not the fact you get 5 games that sells it. its that each of those games are epic. HL2 - beautiful game. can take on average around 10 hours of play, depending how good you are/the difficulty. then theres Episode 1, another 5 hours or so, Episode 2, about 6 hours. And the HL story is so deep and driven its addictive.

Then theres Portal, one of the most clever and original games i've played in a LONG time, a short game but so worth it, really challenging. And Team Fortress 2 provides your multi-player fix and is one of the greats in MP online fps gaming. its fun, addictive, creative and given the price of the orange box, bloody cheap.

if you're after the answer to your seriously demanding need to play FPS online, you like fast intense online action with some of the best graphics and gameplay to date, get COD4. if you're after the long story driven hours of single player, with a chance at some fun multi-player packaged in, and not to mention the countless amounts of mods available for HL2 to further extend the game's quality, get Orange Box.

Well the orange box is better because it has more games.. its a package. :|

COD4 for has an amazing single player campaign which is short, but it fantastic the entire way through. Id say only get COD4 if you plan to play online.

The orange box has games for single player and games for multiplayer. I don't know what your personal taste is.. do you prefer games like HL2? Id say the orange box because it should last you longer than COD4 since you get 5 products instead of one.

Go with CoD4 if you plan to play the multiplayer at all. TF2 just doesn't cut it with 6 official (as of the last time i played) maps.

Everyone should own both, but the Orange Box is more single-player focoused (finite lifespan) with Team Fortress 2. but CoD4 is more multiplayer focused (infinite lifespan.) Depends, SP=OB, MP=CoD

I think you need to edit the topic title. Change the word debate to the word slaughter.

Your lying about the cake!!!!

I would have to say Orange Box. I say this because the single player is longer, and slightly more enjoyable. However, it is slower pacing compared to COD4. (It is not slow, it just isn't as fast). COD4 is nonstop shooting from start to finish, but Orange Box is great shooting for a LONG TIME from start to finish. Also, personally, I like TF2 better that COD4 multiplayer.

lol about the cake. Play portal if you dont get it.

If you haveny played any of the games in the orange box then shame on you!! You absolutely have to buy it if you havent played the half life 2 games at the very least, not to mention portal and TF2.

You'll probably get better value from Orange Box given that it obviously is 5 games as opposed to 1.

Having said that, COD4's campaign is of extremely high quality as short as it is. You will also have unlimited hours from the multiplayer.

Do you have HL2 and EP1 already?

Which ever game you decide on will still be excellent and worth your purchase.

Orange Box. I cant even believe this topic exists...1 fairly good game versus 5 games of epic, epic proportion.

The orange box has to be better because it has 5 games. HL2 by itself is better than CoD4, I mean CoD4 is a great game and I played the MP for over 2 days worth of play time. The orange box gives you HL2, ep1 and 2, plus a great game in portal and TF2. I am currently not playing either, but I see myself replaying the orange box first.

Actually, on second thoughts, this thread is unbalanced. If you mean the new content in the OB (HL2: E2, Portal, and TF2) then I say CoD. If you mean all, then I say OB.

never played COD 4 so my vote is completly based on my experience with the Orange Box.

The orange box is really good but after you beat the games they are kind of boring. That is unless you learn to use the developers console. This provide endless more opportunities for fun, especialy in portal with its bonus maps.
