What was the first FPS that allowed players to aim down the sights of their gun? I'm tempted to say Operation Flashpoint.... (I don't mean the scope of a sniper rifle, either! I mean EVERY GUN.)

I'd say the original Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six.

I also think Operation Flashpoint. It always seemed to me that the game favours the simple zoom (like in Far Cry or FEAR) over iron sights though.

I'd say the original Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six.thusaha
You don't see your gun model in r6, but it has crosshairs that simulate how accurate your aim is.

Colonel is right.

The first game i played with zooming like that is Call of Duty. Since playing that I prefer it over any other shooting style provided it is designed well.

Operation Flashpoint was released in 2001 and COD1 was released in 2003 so I would say Flashpoint was 1st. I can't remember if there was some other games before it that also used iron sights
