OK... so i believe what was causeing my low pinged lag in CS was a low fps rate. I typed in the code to show my fps and saw that it was AT TIMES low.. even down to 30. But waite, this doesnt make sense... i thought i had suitible hardware.. here is my lappy

ASUS g 50vt-x6

2.53ghz processor

GeForce 9800m gs

4 gig of ram

320 g hd

Your processor is a little on the slow side it seems like. Though I'm not sure because I have no clue if it's dual core or not.

If it's a dual, then it's fine. There's no reason why it should be running slow. What settings do you have the game on?

That's not descriptive. What resolution? I can imagine at maybe 1920x1080 with 16x QAA and 16x AF on 32 player servers could bring your FPS down - though I doubt it. Are you running programs in the background while you play?

I have the same setup(but desktop) except for 2GB RAM and an old 8500GT. CSS ran at 70+ avg. FPS on max details, 4xAA & 8xAF @ 1280x1024, Windows XP SP3 BTW......

If it's not the hardware, it's gotta be software. Drivers, updates, background programs, server faults, even the OS itself......

ok well i dont suppose i could even blame the fps rate for lag. becuase i was just in a game and it was at about 150-200 fps and i was lagging, still with a low ping so now we gotta figure out what it is

Your laptop might be on power save mode. Put it on performance mode! My friend had the same problem.

Server lag will do that to you. Find a better server.

Try defragging and updating your graphic card drivers.

i have a problem with mine too.

i usually get 120fps css. but once i alt-tab out and back in. i lose fps dramatically. down to 40-50fps. now i know thats unoticable with the human eyes. but the mouse does not run smoothly and when i try to do a 180 turn, there is a slight delay.

40-50 FPS is noticeable to the human eye. The solution is not alt-tab. When you alt-tab your RAM has to order a lot of memory and crap like that. If you alt-tab back in, it'll take a little bit before the FPS gets back to the usual.

Obviously none of the ppl above have a clue... the issue is in CS models... which are bugged and are causing heavy performance drops.. get the old models (you can get them on steam forum) and replace the current ones.

ive also noticed this with other valve games like half life 2, day of defeat. tf2, l4d.

i have no problem with non valve games.

It's simply how the program is optimized. Source Games aren't exclusive to this problem but there's a lot of games that fair well with alt-tabbing.
