Im having framerate issues on UT3 and a few other games. So i think it could be down to a virus or somthing that could be slowing my PC down.. Does anyoneknow a good apyware remover or anything like that?

is that safe?
Of course its safe. AVG is one of the best. You may also want to consider Ad-Aware. :)
AVG is not one of the best... It is ranked in the middle ( 6) and AVG free is rated towards the bottom ( 5 ) Norton 2009 is rated the best ( 9) ( CPU magazine, Maximum PC and a couple of others ) Your better off buying a good AV program then taking a chance on a " Free " AV program... You get what you pay for.... And contrary to ( Misinformed) beliefs...Norton 2009 uses less resources then either AVG paid or Free... Spend some time comparing... You'll spend 50 dollars on a game...but won't spend 60 dollars a year to protect your rig...hmmmmOgreBDo you work for norton or something lol
No.... Just stating facts... Google it for yourself.
Here are some facts from Maximum PC.
( 9 ) Norton 2009 ..ties with ESET Smart Security
( 8 ) Kaspersky
(7 ) Avira
(6 ) AVG Internet Security 8.0 ..ties with MacFee and several others...
The rest are not worth mentioning...including AVG Free...
Memory usage..
Norton...52
AVG..97 ( no Identity protection)
AVG Free..83 ( does not have rootkit protection, Identity protection, spam controls...and the list goes on )
Google...read up....then decide...
And just remember,,,if you go the " Free " route...please do add Adaware or Spybot..

Prolly drivers, try updateing them
As far as anti virus goes I have the most recent norton 2010. I orginaly bought 2009 but norton sent me an email to let me download 2010 for free! (still have subscription)A deal I couldn't beat. And it updates every minut and I dont ever notice it's running.
thingta, what are your specs? And what games are you playing?IkavnieksHe has a 4850 if I recall correctly ;)
No gamer wants an AV program providing 24/7 active protection. Although this offers good security, it also uses up resources you want freed up during games.
So that's Norton out of the window straight away then...
There is nothing wrong with Free AV protection as long as you turn off active protection, do regular, say weekly, full scans suplemented by much more regular quick scans. I would also get dedicated trojan and adware/spyware scanners as well as your free AV program and run them all regularly just to be safe. Windows defender (on Vista and Win 7) is also a good general purpose tool. Don't forget to do your windows update etc. etc.
I'm sure you are smart enough to make sure you do these things. Also, as much as it pains me to say it, you are better off leaving UAC ON if you don't have active protection as this will bring up a box asking you to allow a program system level access every time something needs it, including viruses, trojans etc.
Having said all that, I don't think it is likely your performance problems are down to a virus. Do the scans to be sure but you might want to optimize your PC.

This guy really knows about Windows. Apparently he has a Win 7 guide on the way but up until then you can use the Vista one for it, since it is a very similar system. I know the guide is long, but if you want max gaming performance you might want to read it.
Operating System: Windows XP

Games i play Hmm. Well the ones i have installed on my Computerare World of Warcraft, SimCity4, Command & Conquer 3, Battelfields 2142, Medieval 2 Total War, Hitman Blood money, Might & Magic VII, Star wars Empire at War, Sims 2, Dawn of War, Kotor:II, Red Alert 3, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Star Wars Battlefront II, Dead Space, Dungeon Seige 2 Company of Heroes Fable Lost Chapters, Doom 3 Elder Scrolls Oblivion,
can max them out allfineand my framerate on them is great.. But on some of my other games run slow. UT3 does so i thought it could be a virus or somthing that is slowing my comp down.
How do i go about updating all my drivers for free? i cant be asked searching all my computers hardware to see who made it.. Plus ive never been good about drivers anyway.. I know though i have the latest Nvidia one for my Card.
Im asking here also http://www.renegade-x.com/Forums/index.php?showtopic=3376&st=0&gopid=28840entry28840I came here to gamespot to get more answers on it all. And someone sied it could be the Operating system that is causing it.
Is that a factor? if i install windows 7 or Vista will my pc run games better? cos one of the guys sied Xp could be bottlenecking my hardware.

This is possable and yes your PC may run better but heres the other side to this, windows XP doesn't have DX10 so all the game you play are only DX9 so you should be getting crazy fram rates...now i said should. try drefraging the Harddrive and if that doesn't work try doing a system hardware dignosis to see if you have faulty hardware, like ram or the GPU.A good thing to do first would be to check your temps using speed fan :Dhow do i do a system hardware dignosis?
thingta42
As UltimateGamer95 said, check your temps, CPU and GPU. if the temps are over ~50C on idle you might have a CPU cooler problem. if the GPU is over ~80C in idle you have a faulty card. If temps are good then you need to shut off the computer and boot up off a dignosis CD program which you may have to buy from a computer repair store. or there might be a dignosis program in your bios or OS depending on your motherboard or program set-up or whatever.how do i do a system hardware dignosis?

I have a Custom cooler & Thermal Paste for my CPU.. On idle its about 24c and on load 35c. Graphics card is Heh.. I had heating issues but i started turning the fanup before i goon games i turn the fan speed to 60% sincestops the card then going over 64c
Card is at 46c atm on idle. I bought this custom heatsink for it but ive never been able to fit it cos ive been to scared to.. CPU heatsinks i can do GPU heatsinks i cant.. The thought of having to pull the heatsink on to fit another one is too scary! I know a good PC repair guy he always fixes my PC i was gonna phone him up but i saw no point in it.

Well your best option then would be for the computer repair guy to check out your PC, If we could run the hardware diognosis we would but we cant haha :P
