I hear people wining about how they get 40fps in games and how they want more fps. Some people say that 40 fps is "bad performance".I think 30 fps is excellent performance. I also hear people saying that they "only" get 40-60 fps in games like COD 4, Test-drive inlimited, World in Conflict. What the hell, thats VERY good fps. I'm satisfied ifeven get 30 FPS min games.

i dont think the human eye can even register anything above 25fps anyway. something like that.

30fps for me is the absolute minimum. playable but any less and i feel like im lacking. 60fps is prefect, because it matches my monitor's refresh rate and i get the best, perfect image.

It absolutely can. Human eye recognizes up to 100 fps or so. People just assume that it can only register 25fps, because that's what movies use and have used for ever. Films have motion blur between every frame which smoothes the moving picture but games don't.

Depends from a game to another, for FPS 30fps is enough but for RTS 30fps is sometime a bit low

Depends on the game for me. Call of Duty 4 looks terrible at 35 frrames per second, but Crysis runs pretty smoothly.

FPS = Fluidity = Better Perception = Better Aim

Online FPS Games min40 FPS is pushing it.

In counter strike source you can cap your frame rate i tryed several FPS's 100-72,60,40 and YOU CAN NOTICE A DIFFRENCE BETTWEEN each as with any other game.

The max FPS that the human eye cna see is 60 FPS.

There is a HUGE difference between 20,30,40,50 and 60 FPS.

It depends on the game. If its a FPS you don't want to have 15FPS in a fire fight. But the same amount would be fine in a RTS.

I'm very picky about this, I need at least 50fps or it annoys the heck out of me in most games. If you want to test it, the original Half Life engine is very useful, just use the fps_max to run through 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 - you will notice the difference. This command just limits the highest frames per second it will show.

Thats good for you. Some people want more fps though. The only game i can tolerate with low fps is crysis. The motion blur gets partially rid of the choppiness. Oh and the human eye can see up to 72.3 frames or something like that.

As long as the game runs smoothly and framerate isn't noticably impacting on the gameplay I don't mind what the framerate is. If a game can sustain 30fps throughout then it will be good for most people. If however you have just bought an 8800GTX and are only getting 30fps you would probably be upset with it!!

New games have motion blur and require less FPS normally.

Compare Quake 1 (no motion blur) at 30 fps and Crysis (with motion blur) at 30 fps and you'll notice how big the difference is. You'll need more FPS in quake to make it more 'fluid' than crysis, UT3, Bioshock, etc...

if you play a game at 30 fps and then play at 60, you will see the difference.

24 frames is the rate used in movies, but the election was a compromise between "fluidity" and "cheapines" : more frames per second = more film = more money. But there's no doubt that 50, 60,100 or 120 fps are better. Also realize that in movies and tv the rate of images are constant and in videogames aren't.

So, maybe you can't esily say if a game has 40, 60 or 80 fps, but your brain is very susceptible to slowdowns, and can easily discern when the framerrate suddenly falls, even if you are playing at 100 fps or more.
