All of those games are fully installed on your computer. The disk is required to be in the drive regardless. It's used a an anti piracy method. It checks to see if the disc is in and then it runs the game. Try taking the disc out while you are playing, you will see that the game will keep running just fine.

Since the disc is required for DRM purposes by most games you'd have to strip or circumvent the DRM from the game first, unless the developers made the game so it will run without the disc. And how to do that is not something that any one of us should be discussing on this forum. :) Or you can by the games online as digital downloads, and not have to worry about discs at all.

some games that originally came with a cd-check may have been given an official patch that removes such protection. examples include warcraft 3 and starcraft.

I personally have a netbook, so there is no disc drive.... If this is the case, check out cloneCD and Daemon tools, works for older games, but rarely new ones. Could you add the game to steam then run it just by starting steam?

Which is why you are getting vague and generally unhelpful answers... Because the only way to do that is with something we aren't allowed to discuss on these forums... Don't know if you noticed the rules right at the top of this forum, but one says that there isn't to be "any discussion of methods to defeat copy-protection"... Putting the disc in your system is copy protection and you are trying to defeat it...

1. Yes, that's what people usually say. 2. It's not illegal to customize your computer. It is however illegal to circumvent the copy-protection on your games 3.
any discussion of methods to defeat copy-protection or trading of game keys can lead to a moderation with suspension or the possibility of permanent banPC Gaming Forum Rules
And item three on that list is why I'm now going to get as far away from you as possible, so I don't get moderated too. :P

It's illegal to move copyrighted content between mediums, technically it's illegal to rip your own CDs or put music you bought on iTunes on to your iPod.

I didn't know that was the same thing as what I was trying to do. Sorry. I love how funny these laws are about iphones, and cd's where you buy them but you don't own them in the sence that you can't do what you want with them. but hey I guess that how it is and its never going to change.... Thanks for the help...

Technically it's not the act of copying that is illegal, it is the work you have to do to be able to copy the content in question, if you want to nitpick. ;) But in this case, for what the TC is asking, the big point is it's very much against the ToU to try and to post about how to do it, so... yeah. No help to be had or given here. :)

Quite a few older games allow you to play them without the CD and, as others have already said, some new games thankfully patch out annoying CD checks after the game has been released for awhile. You could also start buying digital copies which forgo discs altogether. Steam is good for that or, if you like older games, nothing beats GOG.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, Ya I have notice the digital copies but they aren't that big yet. I wish there where more companies like steam because I really don't like how steam is set up, but that is just opinions. I can't wait for the day where there are more things like steam out there it will make my life so much better.

Impulse, GOG, D2D, Gamersgate... There are quite a few other places to buy digital games.
