Building my first rig and have a question, but first:

Despite our modest budget, my wife agreed to the purchase of an ECS 8800GT 512MB. I then discovered it wouldn't fit in my Dell proprietary mobo due to the insane layout of the board. In her eternal love and support, she has granted me leave to build my first DIY around the GPU! She even seems to be more into it than I am. She's already got me:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

PC Power&Cooling Silencer 470w PSU

ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

So, Thanks, Dana. You're a beautiful woman and the Holy Grail of Gamer-wives! I love you with all that I am.

If you're still reading, thanks. On to the question:

I assume there's no reason not to go with a bigger case, as they can have more airflow. I know I won't need all the drive bays that come with a full ATX, but we're leaning towards this:

Anyone have any experience with it? Dana's going to pick the case and likes this one.

That looks like a very good case.
The only reasons that may exist to not go for a bigger case are

1. Price, the bigger and more advenaced, the more expensive they come.

2. Limited space in which the computer is about to operate.

There is only one thing, even though the one you are settled on will serve you absolutely fine, I recommend a better PSU if you intend on upgrading soon.

BTW you should consider yourself dam lucky to have a wife like that. =)

That looks like a very good case. If you are confident with the price then there is no reason not to get it.

If you dont really need that much of space with full then i'd look to big mid towers that have great airflow.. like Antec 900 and CM 690

Unless you want the extra room (Planning to have monster size GPU's) I'd go with a Mid tower. Btw is the 470W enough to handle the 8800GTS 512? I ordered mine recently and i got a 700W with mine

I like a big mid case. Sometimes in reviews on newegg or other sites, you will see comments about size. I have a case classified as mid, but it is a nice size, nothing too big, but everything fits, I love it.

I myself am hooked on full tower cases. If you have the room for it, then it the only way to go IMHO.

Makes working on them a lot easier too.

Yeah you may want to get a slightly more powerful PSU.

If you're going with a mid tower, I recommend this one

Pretty much the only reason to go Full Tower, (outside of convenience of building in a bigger case) is if you need the room more multiple large graphics cards and lots of HDD's.

Since it's your first build, going with a full tower would be a good choice. It gives you plenty of room to work with and you don't run the risk of running out of space with hardware, wires, and the risk of bending or breaking things in small, tight spaces.
