How should I make my character if i want to have the best time while still being a powerful character? Just got the game and I don't really like the dwarf.

My preferred class is a Human male Noble Rogue, altho it is only the "Rogue" part that matters really ^^

Rogues is DA:O are incredibly powerful fighters, while being masters of stealth, assassination, ranged, and lockpicking ;)

Infact Rogues generally have a far higher DMG output then the warrior has, 2 weapon fighting is lethal since you can stun an opponant for x amount of time, and shower him with Crit hits (all attacks when you have the rgue skills up when an opponant is stunned are treated as crits)

Besides... They can jog around in heavy armor, and wield longswords or waraxes without any penalties when they get up in level ;)

The Rogue with Assassin + Dualist are a nightmare to behold :s

The Mage classes are fine aswell, most people seem to prefer them, but they lack some of the diversity I tend to like, they are quite handy, but Somehow I was underwhelmed by them.

Fighters are the class I like the least, they can use shields, but that aint saying alot, thier 2hand weapon trip is kinda fun, but I quickly begin to miss the Rogues ability to move without being noticed, so they are often pretty straight farwards to play... leaving out alot of the more satisfying tactics

I made a human rogue and found him to be hard ..i made the mistake of trying to make him a tank front on kind of fighter that doesnt really work..had to go through really slow and careful

My next was a human mage..made the game too easy and boring..although this wouldnt have been the case if it was my first run through

Ppl who say rogues can be better front line fighters than a warrior are wrong and havnt played one...warriors later on become powerhouses..that can tank and do massive damage to multiple targets with a massive crit rate

my order would be mage/warrior > rogue purely as you have to either choose to be utility or damage

Ok, thanks for the input, I made a human rogue.. should I just evenly disperse points between strength, cunning, and dexterity?

I had the most fun with my City Elf Ranger build. SPOILERS AHEAD I ran with Leliana, Zevran and Shale. We were all archers. Leliana was Bard/Ranger, Zevran was Assassin/Ranger and I was Duelist/Ranger. Three bears was fun, but it's annoying to set up the tactics so that your bears can use Overwhelm. Still good though. Three well-timed Scattershots and a hurl of rock from Shale often equals dead mobs.

The dwarfs are the funniest to me... They are like little kids playing around the big bosses.

That depends on what you want to build, since the Rogue is most open, but those are 3 very good stats to put points in.

I ended up with something like 48 Str, I think my dex was in the 50 range, and cunning I only used to use my assassin skills, and rogue skills, (they give a nice dmg bonus with the assassin trait). But constitution is good to have, If you are low on points there is an awesome ring in the dwarven city that gives you alot of health. stamina and magic skills are fairly "moot"

As I said, since your class has no impact on strength or dmg output in itself (if it has it is seriously limited considering I had way more HP then Alistair), it is possible to make the Rogue a master of all traits, or just the ones you want, I do prefer the dual weilding close combatant one, partly because he has the ability to fight really dirst and have something like an average dmg output in the 90s per hit. (with flurry of blows that lends to a serious dmg output).

If you prefer piercing weapons then dex is a must, but I went for slashing, and the blood dragon armor + the helmet from the dlc + longswords with dual mastery, I needed strength more then dex overall (dex was quite useful when it came to thief skills, so stocked up on them too. With the metorite sword and the mean arse axe the trader in the camp sells, it made for an instantly lethal combo.

I guess that is why I liked my Rogue so much, dual speciality, dualist and assassin allows you to block something like half of all incomming blows automaticly making them void, and if they passed I had this insane armor.

Some people say that you can do a dex build and it will be just as good (because he/she will be hard to even hit at all) I belive that is true ^^

Im on my 4th playthrough now ^^ did 2 different rogue builds a mage build and a warrior build... I can reccomend trying out the build you think it good, the game is quite good in that way. It is rare I see anyone claim that thier builds was a total waste. Altho I did make the mistake of making a warrior build first, since that class has the least amount of possibilities to manipulate his/her surroundings
