Friendly jacking Ahab's account for a quick question while he's away. :P

deciding between the G400 and the G500. which would you recommend, and why? which has better tracking? is acceleration for laser mice really that big of an issue, from what I've heard?

thanks in advance. :D

I voted G400... But I haven't used the G500!

I got a G400 and started using it in the last few days of December because my Mx510's left clicker started to seem unresponsive.
After around five years of using the Mx510 I figured I'd go with the closest thing and not bother with the extra features of the G500.

Not sure if the G500 would provide an improvement, but I've had no problems while using the G400.

Acceleration can be turned off. I think they both cost around the same atm.

I'm using a g500 and it's a pretty solid mouse, despite the clunkly wheel. I see that the g400 is optical, and g500 has 5000 pointless dpi. I normally run nearly the minimum dpi and sensitivity.

Go for the 500 if u want the free wheel and the weight tray.

This. Except it has 5700 dpi. I just got the g500 the other day and it is absolutely incredible.

I would say the G500. But to be completely honest, the best option would be to get a feel for the mice yourself if possible.

The G500 is a heaier mouse from what I felt back then, I like my mice heavy, so that is a preference.

Laser or optical is so so, Im not sure either is a huge sellingpoint. Optical would be good enough for most people anyways.

THe one thing I can not comment on is how sturdy they are, As I said I have a G500, before that a G5.

My own view on the G400 was that it felt light, and fragile. HOWEVER! some of my frinds have G400 mice and they appears as solid and resistant to wear as my G500.

So Basicly see if you can feel them both in your hand, as that will likely be the best for you. In the end it always comes down to feel ;) If you are not able to. You might consider starting with a G400, and IF it is too light, or feels somehow wrong, you could try a G500 next time ;) Just a word of warning, a good mouse is near impossible to wear out, My previous G5, did not break, I still keep it as a reserve ^^

The only way to turn off acceleration in Windows completely is to edit the registry values for the mouse acceleration curve, even those settings in SetPoint wont actually change anything. There are some games that can do raw mouse input, but it's pretty few and far between.

I forgot the websight that I got the registry file... I'd personally recommend removing it completely, but apparently some weirdos like acceleration.

I use a g500 w/o any weight added, and the frame that holds the weights is also removed, I like my mice to be ~light.
