Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics to run Crysis with a few decent settings enabled. The MSI 8600GT is ok but it could do with some more guts.

The DELL C521 has a 280W PSU which could be where I come unstuck.

MSI specified a 450W minimum PSU for their 8600GT but the extra power consumption compared to the X1300 it came with was minimal and the PSU does not get hot.

Galaxy also specify a minimum spec of 400W with an external 6-pin connector for power. I saw a review from a buyer on newegg that said he had no problems with an HTPC slim case pc. There were even some molex to 6-pin power adapter calbles that came in the package.

My question is, has anyone else tried this? and does anyone know how long the Galaxy 'blade' 9600GT low profile is ?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The only issues that you will probably need to worry about is the heat ones, the air flow in those machines isnt designed to have a card like the 9600GT inside.

I recently purchased one of these for my Dell Inspiron 530s (having also bought a slim-tower without realising its limitations). Its a fantastic little card and runs COD4 with ease. I was a little concerned about the rather puny 250W power supply in my case handling the card, so I also bought a 450W Thermaltake VGA power supply. This has to sit outside the case (with the cables running out through a spare PCI slot) as I don't have a free 5.25in bay to house it, but this set up seems to work fine.

The card is pretty noisy under load, presumably because it has a smaller than average fan to keep it low-profile, but its not too intrusive.
