What do you mean by 'as good as?'

If you mean something similar as fantasy type rpg I would recommend Witcher 2.

If you mean something I would rate the same then that would be a big list.

Like sleepingzzz said play The Witcher 2, or 1 for that matter. Oblivion, Morrowind, Dragon Age Origins, and Fallout 3 and New Vegas Keep in mind the games I mentioned are, in my honest opinion, way superior to skyrim.

Try Far Cry 3. Even though it is a different genre, the game obviously took a lot of notes from Skyrim in terms of sandbox design.

The only RPG I've played recently that's as good as or better than Skyrim is Dragon Age: Origins. While it doesn't have the scale it has stronger characters and more tactical combat.

Well, for me Oblivion was better than Skyrim, you might want to give that a try. Also there are tons of mods for it as well. Witcher 2... shame you missed all the sales. I got it for 4.99 a couple of weeks ago. Dragon Age: Origins, and be sure to get the version with all the DLCs because all of them are awesome. Fallout 3 is also a Bethesda game, so it has sort of the same feel, but placed in a post apocalyptic world, with guns and mutants. New Vegas follows the same path but there's a huge debate on which story is better or what not. They're both worth getting IMO. Borderlands 1 and 2 also follow that open world RPG style, but they're also based on a random loot system (like the Diablo series, meaning there are thousands of items).

DraugenCP

Seems more stalker influenced imo.

It is, basically every "sandbox style" fps out really was influenced by stalker, and IMO none of them do it as good as stalker

You need to be a lot more specific about what you liked in Skyrim because asking for a good-as or better game is far too objective. A lot of people here actually dislike skyrim, so pointing you to a better game (in their opinion) is not a difficult task.

Yeah I thought oblivion and skyrim were really shallow. Very unfullfilling.

yeah you should try Far Cry 3. it's not RPG, but it's fun exploration.

if you want more RPG, though, i can't recommend Dark Souls enough. it's not as open (still has lots of exploration) than Skyrim, but the gameplay is the best i've ever seen in an action/realtime RPG.
