Games like AOE3

Is there a game out that has similiar gameplay to AOE3 but is more recent and has more of a community? Like base building and resource gathering and stuff.

There are tons of RTS games, it's one of the staple genres of the PC. However, more and more games are foregoing the traditional "collect X and y resource" model for more of a focus on combat and tactics.
