One of my frav games back in the day was Battlefield 2, its slow. There doom 3, that game is slow. Let me tell you, once you get use to the keyboard and mouse, play Counterstrike (best game ever)
A few games come to mind:
Call of Duty isn't exactly slow-paced, but it's very easy in terms of aiming, gunplay, etc. Playing through the campaign of CoD2 shouldn't be a problem, and it'sa decent game.
Half-Life 2 has a large focus on puzzling and platforming, so there'll be plenty of moments where there are no enemies in sight, and you can just goof around with the physics and the gravity.
Crysis is very slow-paced and not very hard. You can decide your own pace and playing styIe. I once went through the entire first level of the game (and levels are huge in Crysis) without being seen once. There's always a way to evade fights, bar a few scripted battles and sequences each level.
Hope that helped. You could also just play games at the easiest setting first to get used to the mechanics.
I would personally recommend something like Portal. It'll start out very easy, but gets a little more action-oriented as you get later into the game. Plus this game is one of those titles that you should really experience anyway, if you haven't already on another platform.
A really good one would be Audiosurf. The "Mono" mode would be great for mouse movement practice..you can turn up the difficulty (and use faster-paced tracks) as you get better. A cool way to listen to your music library, and it's cheap to boot.
edit: just noticed that you asked for a FPS specifically, but I would still recommend Audiosurf to practice mouse movement. Skill in FPS games translates extremely well in this one.
S.W.A.T. 4 would be a good one, it's slow and strategic; there's really no twitch shooting involved. Really fun co-op game too.
I would try out the Total War series if you have any ibterest in history and strategy games. You can get Rome: Total War, the expansion, Mideivial: Total War, and it's expansion at Walmart for a $20 pack. If yo can only get one I'd go for Rome personally, it's cheaper and my favorite of the series, also easier to get the hang of than Medieval was.
I say these games as it takes fewer botton clicks that other strategy games to master by far (Warcraft and Star Craft I'm looking at you), and can help ease you into better using the mouse in your right hand and the keyboard in your left. You'll pretty much just be using them to control the camera and click units, dragging them into formations, and clicking the things you want them to kill.
If you are an RPG fan i'd go for the Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect games. They are slow paced enough to get you used to the controls than other games where you have direct control over a characer.
FPS are hard to pick as most require quick reactions and the ability to use the keyboard and mouse precisely to get good, but once you get the hang of it you have better control than a gamepad, at least that's the general concensus.
Also that Audiosurf game looks very interesting. Is it available on Steam at all?Starseed
Yep, the game is $9.99 on Steam. Here's the store page. There's also a demo there if you want to give that a shot.
you might want to avoid any online multiplayer fps's for now, half-life 2, chronicles of riddick, crysis, doom 3, andquake 4, are all pretty good and should help you get used to using a mouse and keyboard again.
Team Fortress 2 is miles away from the console version so try that because it fun.mattuk69
Yeah, this slipped my mind. Very good one to try, especially if you like multiplayer games. Very fun and a great game to play casually. I would start out with the Medic or Engineer until you get the full hang of the mouse..then move on to the Heavy and Soldier. The Scout is probably be the most difficult to control and master, so avoid that one in the beginning.
Yeah I would like to try a game like Team Fortress but considering it has been out for years I would assume the only people still playing it are incredibly good so I don't think I would have much fun currently.Starseed
Nah, you see a HUGE range of skill levels. The community is pretty laid-back compared to other FPS games..a large portion of people just play to have to fun and don't care much about striving to be uber-pro. I think even a complete newcomer can have a great time with it.
Most frustrating to new players are probably skilled Scouts. Luckily you don't see very many of them.
TF2 isn't a bad choice because only a couple classes actually require aiming ability. I don't like all the "updates" Valve has been doing so I don't play the game anymore, but it seems like there are a lot of people who still really enjoy it. And you can help out your team in a few ways aside from directly killing other players.
Just about any shooter, because you'll useseveral of the keys. You'll learn the keys quickly. You'll start with WSADand maybe C,Q,E and R. Then you'll move into T,Y and U. It's all broken up into sections that don't need to be learned all at once.
WSAD-QER-ZXC-TYU-VBNM. That's about it. The rest of the letters may or could have functions but they arerarely manditory. If you can type you should know the layout therefore you should slide right into it. Playing games is the reason I learned the layout of a keyboard.
[QUOTE="Starseed"]I am just trying Half Life for the first time, I seem to move so quickly! It seems quite difficult to control lol.mattuk69You mean looking around with your mouse? Because you can turn the sensitivity of the mouse down in the options to how you like it. I mean actually walking, it seems very loose. I had trouble lining up just to walk up some stairs. This is gonna take some getting used to especially with using the mouse in the right hand as well.
Just get Counter-Strike: Source and jump in the deep end.
If you get competent at CS you'll be alright at every FPS out there.
My 4yr son old can play games on the pc, he loves playing ghostbusters and he knows what all the keys do like f is for the trap wsad is to move around and x is to turn on the pke meter, its pretty crazy he can beat the slimer& stay pufflevel by himself. I only let him play games right before his bed time.
