Fallout 1+2. Suppose it's not the same type of exploration though...

Uh, Daggerfall?

It really is a matter of whether you can tolerate old 2D graphics or not. If you were interested by the sort of exploration in Fallout 1 and 2, you should also give some of the best 2D epic RPGs ever made a go. Those would include Baldur's Gate series, Planescape Torment and possibly the Icewind Dale series too. Those games don't have a huge open area like Beth's games, but they too offer a huge variety of freedom of choice.

True that. I'm enjoying a high res replay of Torment myself. Still, my original point was that not everyone get used to the 2D graphics even if it's in high res. It took me quite awhile to dig into BG.

You definitely added a lot to this discussion. Going to second Arcanum, though it's flawed in a lot of ways the atmosphere of the game is fantastic. Really quite enjoyable, and now I'll reinstall it.

So what? He said expect that game, its only understandable that the game will be his next buy, he is looking for other games similar to fallout 3, he said he loves fallout 3. Do you think before you post the obvious?

Thats what i aws going to reccomend but it does not have the same exploration style as falout 3 or stalker(That you find usefull stuff in boxes that cannot be acquired easilly and as many times you want from a shop) Thats why i hesitated to recomend the gta games!

ArmA 2. You complete a few missions and then you're dumped in a gigantic country and do whatever the hell you want. The campaign is then randomised.

No thanks i could care less what people think here  I am far from the obvious, therfore i dont make any obvious discussions, i stick to detail. Now if you wanna discuss anything in depth and detail, feel free to reply but dont reply to me with 1 short sentece pointing the obvious like you usually do. There is more to it than the obvious, if you cant see past the obvious then i dont expect you to ever understand me and i dont blame you ;)

Gothic 2 and 3 (never played G1, I'd assume that is good too) are great open ended games. Gothic 3 was really buggy in the beginning, but after some patches were released its running beautifully.

Its better, it has bigger maps and a much stronger exploration element. Basicly the areas you explore are better and have better loot!

You should actually read half the things you say they are nothing more than whiney little complaints you pull out of the air. It is as if you bring joy to dogging people's games they like. You will come out of no where, where there are nothing but positive things about a game and say something completely wrong. 95% of your posts are negative, you look at the glass as half empty.

Not my fault that the games i actually like are never discussed here: half life, deus ex, system shock 2, fear, doom 3, the witcher, fallout 3, resident evil 5, batman aa, far cry, far cry 2, oblivion, sillent hill series, bionic commando, red faction guirella, rainbow six vegas 2, cod mw2, dead space. Instead we discuss games that i have many complains about, like hl2, stalker, mass effect.! The difference is i can accept the negative parts. For example i scream and shout that deus ex is mediocre when it comes to fps gameplay but its the mixture of rpg with fps that make it good. The diffirence is that i accept the complains about far cry 2 and dead space. Seriously every thread containing those 2 games gets 90% negative comments same goes to mw2. But i dont rage and try to prove everyone wrong, like with half life 2 for example! Also in waht exactly you are referring that i am saying something "completly wrong"?

Most RPGs will give you a great feeling of exploration, particularly fantasy RPG's with large, natural environments. However, that kind of experience is not limited to RPGs.

I was going to suggest Risen but kozzy beat me to it. The game has a really nice world full of stuff to find and explore.
