If you have a 1080p monitor I'd suggest a 2GB version of 7850. This PSU would be good. And don't use a laptop HDD, it's 5400rpm.

basebob28

Why 2 gb? performance increase?

basically more ram @ 1080p u have the less your preformance gets butchered from say 1080i or 720p resolutions. so basically it will make your preformance more consistent but it wont be a huge leap in preformance

hey guys, Im building a computer  and need help trying t keep it at $600

Right now , the build loooks something like this:

Radeon HD 7850 1 GB

asrock z77

intel i5 3570k

corsair 8 gb ram

windows 7 64 bit

I need to know what PSU to get, (probably 500w) and if i should get a new HDD or if i should use the 320 GB from my laptop. I will also use the casing of oan old tower. This build sits around $620 (comes with FC3, tombraider, and bioshock) ( plus $15 rebate) IF i use the HDD from my laptop. I dont want to cheap out to much on the GPU and processor, but if you guys have better builds id be happy to see them :D thanks.

I'd get 600W to be safe, and it would future-proof the system more.

In my opinion, it's silly to get less than 600W for a gaming rig.

just look at corsair/Antec 500-550W PSU's . You can find them at $65-75 mostly. XFX also has some good budget models at the under $80 category

thats the build i recommended..awesome.  Again it would be good if you could tell me what the name and brand of the old case your going to use is so that I can find out if it is micro atx, or atx or some other design.   You could also post a picture of the case for us to check out.  A way to save money would be to lower the graphics card to a radeon 7770.

A good 500W psu will happily be more than adequate for even something like a gtx670/7950 Silly is to get a $30-40 700-800W power supply of questionable quality. Good budget buy is to get a decent 450-550W 80plus PSU from a known brand, No need to go over 500-550W if you are on a budget and you dont plan to Sli/crossfire or go crazy with the rest of your Pc ( ie alot of Hard disks, tv tuners, extreme edition Cpu's ,lots and lots of fans and so on )

Exactly what memory are you buying from Corsair? You can easily cut the price greatly if you avoid going with something like Vengeance, it's pretty unnecessary in my opinion.

u dont have to oc that CPU :/

and u should consider a better PSU anyways, 500W is the minimum requirement for those GPU's and PSU's aren't 100% efficient

something like this would be ideal

if you plan on using this rig for gamming you really should look into the FX8350 (if you are budget concious), it performs right on par with the i5 3570k(from everything i've seen on youtube and read online) and it could loosen up some room to improve the GPU. For gamming it would probably give u the best bang for your buck. and at least go for the 2gb 7850, it will give u more staying power.

and if u do want to OC, people are getting those 8350's over 5GHZ with water cooling

In that case you gotta consider an aftermarket cooler and a better PSU (with 45-50A on the 12V rail), since AMDs are not worth it unless OC'ed IMO.

Sorry to ask an off topic question guys. I just bought a laptop with a AMD Radeon HD 8770M 1GB GDDR5. Is there a non mobile GPU it compares to? It's been running games well like FO: NV and Prince of Persia. Sorry if it's a dumb question I'm still learning about computers. Thanks for any help.

not really . A 7850 will happily function on a good 80 plus 400-450W unit. Reason why AMD and Nvidia often recommend higher wattage is because they want to be covered from all those low quality power supplys with efficiency ratings way lower than 80%

well it doesnt make sense to cut out the possiblity of crossfire when u can get a 750w corsair for 70 bucks
