It is definitely better than the futureshop computer! That 4870 is leaps and bounds above the 4650 and 8 GB of RAM is overkill at the moment unless you are doing some heavy video/photo editing while playing flash games in six separate browser windows with Crysis open in another.

what timings are your ram(ie 6-6-6-18/5-5-5-15). you could always try to oc your ram higher mhz with lower timings or go up to ddr3 but you'd have to get a whole new build lol. also if you're trying to save money, getting a 770 motherboard instead of 790 wouldnt be a bad idea. the southbridge is sb710 instead of sb750 and theres no onboard video but can usually hang with the 790 in benchmarks and what not.

DDR2 is being replaced by faster DDR3 its not future proof enough as in some year it will be a pile of old memory

as for gaming goes the faster the video card the faster the performance, a decent cpu and plenty of fast memory but the rest don't pay off

Yeah DDR3 is faster but its also more expensive haha :) I still think that DD2 is the best bang for the buck as they say, I will look into that motherboard and I will follow up with what I think. Thanks for your help :)

you would have to upgrade your cpu to am3 also if you want to upgrade your ram and mobo.

ddr2 is the best bang for buck. i have to go out right now but you should try to find the speed of a 1066mhz with cas 5 vs a 1600mhz with cas 8. its prob pretty similiar and wont be a noticeable difference in real life terms. then again, upgrading to an am3 system isnt really that much more expensive and it is more future proof but the money you save on going am2 you could spend to get a 4890 or some aftermarket coolers for your cpu/vga card.
