Okay, here's a nice budget build which is much better than the previous ones imo. Since you play games at 1280x1024, the 320mb ram 8800GTS will be fine. This computer is guaranteed to run all games you throw at it on maxed out settings at 1280x1024.
https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=6565828&WishListTitle=Under+1k+PC

It comes to $1012 after shipping, but after the $20 mail in rebate, it comes to $992. Enjoy!

Here is my quick build:

$115 E4300
$100 EVGA 650i Ultra
$130 Crucial Ballistix 2gb DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15 (Micron D9)
$270 EVGA 8800GTS 320mb
$87 WesternDigital RE 320gb SATA 7200rpm 16mb
$50 CoolerMaster Centurion 534 Mid-tower
$95 Corsair HX520w
$18 Lite-ON 16x DVD 48x CD Drive SATA
$32 Sony NEC 18x DVD Burner SATA
$7 NEC Floppy Drive

Total: $903

Then all you need in the future is get a Q6600 when you can later this year for $266 and you will be set for awhile.
BTW- I would use XP until a few DX10 games come out.

Cheap PSU, cheap ram and cheap HD...
The processor is nice but why not save some money and go cheap and then upgrade later?

Eh, I guess you posted while I was typing that. I'm not a big fan of the Allendale, but if this guy isn't a big overclocker, it would work out pretty well for him. the 965 and the 650i Ultra are about the same as well.

BTW, I never buy my HD's online. The weekly Best Buy ads almost always have better deals. My HD was something like $55 dollars.

I think LordEC911 has the build with the most potential, especially for an overclocker. I'd scrap the DVD drive and the floppy for one of those Mitsumi card readers, and change the hard drive to Seagate, but those are all pretty minor changes.

assuming that you are not in need of a new monitor, I'd recommend this setup

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-965P-S3(rev.1.3)
Power supply: 550 Watt E-Power PSU with maximum output of 38 amps on the 12V rail
Case: Standard ATX Mid Tower by Rosewill
RAM: 2GB dual channel memory kit from Geil with 4-4-4 CAS latency
Hard drive: 250 GB SATA 3Gb/s Seagate Barracuda
Optical drive: Dual layer DVD burner
Video card: 320MB PNY GeForce 8800 GTS
Operating system: your choice vista or XP
Grand total: roughly 1050 dollars

Look at my sig. I plan to buy it later this year. With a $100 case and a $70 600w psu, it will be ready to go and far under $1000. All the parts are on newegg, except the HD and DVD which are at tigerdirect. I now that the graphics card is not a 8800gts, but it is $70 - $80 less. Besides, for those who are upgrading to DX10, by the time a lot of dx10 games come out you will need a more powerfull card anyway.

If you had to get a 8800GTS, you could just spend about $80 bucks more.

Can you put a graphics card into a motherboard with a different chipset? For example: a nvidia 8800GTS in a mobo with a Radeon chipset.

You people have forgoten AMD. Intel is better, but they are more expensive. Look at the benchmarks at tomshardware. You can get a very good AMD cheaper than a good Intel. Intel would however be better at overclocking. I do not want to overclock because it will void the warranty.

1. you don't need a dvd burner a dvd drive will work just fine

2. the processor you picked out and the one i did are almost identical even though one's clocked a little faster it won't matter because of overclocking

3. i never said everything was the same but majority of it was

4. don't ever say "please don't make stupid comments mastershake" that sounds so gay refering to a person as a username just say don't make stupid comments  Â
