Hey guys, I am currently in the process of building me a gaming rig, I am not sure 100% on the parts I am going to be choosing, but I have turned to my fellow PC gamers (those who have built one before) for recommendations! I am looking to build one at the price between $600-$900 at most.

As of now:

Will be running Windows 7

Casing: Cooler Master HAF 932

Video Card: The GeForce GTX 460.

CPU: Intel Core i7- 920

Cooling: undecided

Mobo: undecided

Mem: undecided.

If I am missing any parts, let me know, and recommendations would be very nice.

generally without, but if you can find a better, cheaper case than what I have picked out so far, that would be nice.

the case is nothing but a fashion statement 95% of the time, a budge case will do just fine and save you a big chunk of money. Unless you plan on overclocking the stock cooling is more than enough, you will want 4gb+ ram. Go for a quad core cpu, amd is cheaper and intel is slightly faster but you wont notice any difference in games.

yeah you might as well buy a $50 case and put the extra $200 into a better gpu/cpu.

I'll go for Intel.

And what should I get for the RAM? what is the most trustworthy?

Yes, but make it an even $1000, and go for an Antec 300. As for PSU's, go for either an Enermax Modu87+ 700w or a Seasonic M12D 750; another good part of this build is that the motherboard supports Crossfire @ 16/16 so it will last for a while.

You may get rebates depending on when you buy, but if I were going for a new system, that would be close to the ideal build I would choose - its your choice, and the system will last for a long while with plenty of upgrading options and no quality issues. You don't build new gaming PC's every day, do you?

yea i will agree with smc would not advise trying to go the i7 route with only 900 bucko's ther amd route will be more fitting unless you wana go the i5 route but that might be pushing it just a tad bit... in opinion get yourself and amd setup the p2 x4's are a very good cpu i have had amd in the past for most of my builds.

Combo Deal

  • Mobo: Gigabyte GA-8800GMA-UD2H
  • CPU: AMD phenom II x4 945 3.0 ghz
  • RAM: OCZ 4 gb (2x2) ddr3 1600 ram
  • HDD: Western digital 720gb harddrive

Price 381.98

CD/DVD Drive: Sony DVD/cd Burner media drive

Price 19.99

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 460

Price 199.99

Combo Deal

  • Case: Antec 300
  • PSU: Antec 650 Watt PSU

Price: 129.98

OS: Windows 7 Home

Price: 154.99

Total 886.93

This is a little bit price considering you getting ddr3 1600 ram and a full windows 7 OS (not OEM). If you know anyone in college, they might be able to get you a copy of 7 for WAY cheaper through there university. If budgets tight, you could go find some computer shop who still has some XP copies for like 50 dollars. I just was trying to maximize your price range and got pretty dang close.
