Medusa is like $120 or so...how much do you want to spend? They also were basiclaly the top rated headset of all time so far.

Are you serious? You linked to Newegg after he told you he lives in a different hemisphere?

Have you considered the Razer Barracuda HP-1 5.1 Headphones? I own a pair and I only have two gripes with them: 1) The rear speakers don't have a lot of bass, but once you balance them, they're okay. 2) The right ear cup fell off as I was taking them off my head one day; I still need to RMA them. Other than those two things, they're pretty good. You can definitely tell where vehicles or gunfire is coming from. I can't stand not knowing the locations of sounds with my stereo headphones. The headset is pretty nice for listening to music, as well. Overall, they have my recommendation.

I use the Audio Technica ATH-AD700. I have both noticed far superior game and music sound from switching from my speakers/bose headphones. While playing games you can really tell where sounds are coming from and its awesome. They are also very comfy while looking unique.

Don't be fooled by the price in the listing. You can find them for $100 like I did.

It is going to be used for gaming only pretty much and im starting to think sennheiser arnt as good in that department as they are with sound quality. I think getting sennheisers will be spending more than neccessary and not getting the directional sound i am after.

Now im leaning towarga the razor barracude, medusa 5.1 and steelpad 5h v2.

I thought i would get mixed opinions and thats a given but first hand experiences with the products are what im interested in because im willing to spend however much i want to be happy with what i get :)

If your going to be gaming, get a 5.1 headset. While the sound quality isn't as great as some of the sennheisers, you're compensated with the gameplay advantage.

Oh, I just remembered another thing about the Razer Barracuda Headphones, the mic doesn't work for many people, me included. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it seems like it's not something that happens to every headset. If it happens to you, just get a $5 desk mic or one that clips onto your collar. Barring that additional minor annoyance, I still recommend them.

5.1 headphones tend to have bad sound quality. IF you have an X-FI you get directional sound with stereo headphones with EAX. It works for me.

$crew 5.1 headphones...those abominations should not have been created in the first place...

especially the razer barracuda... those pieces of crap has a reputation of having the headband snap. yes im serious. even the so-called "directional sound" is a mess.

listen to Trilvester with the AD700...seriously...superb soundstaging, imaging directional sound with excellent sound quality.

for the price of the medusa or barracuda u could get something MUCH better in the form of A500 + Zalman clip on mic. every single advantage the AD700 but in a closed can....plus it can be used for other things and not just gaming as well.

dont be fooled by the "gaming headphones" or "5.1 headphones" nonsense.

the AT headphones can be ordered from audiocubes.com or bluetin.com

Usually 'real' headphones and a separate mic are a much better solution, since the real headphones completely stomp all over the headsets for sound... but they're horribly expensive compared to the prices you can get gaming headsets for. I'm using an Icemat Siberia (though apparently Icemat and Steelseries are the same company, so now it's Steelseries Siberia heh) and have liked it, except for the way it can break over time. The customer service was awesome and fast in replacing mine, though.

Audio Technica A500 and real headphones....not headsets...hence the reason i mentioned the Zalman clip-on mic in my earlier post.

i have heard of the medusa...so i dont need the links for the reviews. but like i said....for the same price u can get something much better in the form of the A500. main reason im recommending the A500 is due to the budget....if there was more money to be thrown around...id be saying the more expensive brother, A900 (which is the most recommended headphones (unamped) for gaming over at head-fi. the A500 does the job similarly well for gaming just not as refined as the more expensive brother. but it will still stomp any gaming or 5.1 "headphones" out there. especially in terms of sound quality. soundstage and positioning on them are excellent.

as for reviews of the medusa, lets take the barracuda for example, reviews say theyre good. but just look at the feedback on them in this thread alone. let alone the rest of the internet. ive also tried more than a fair share of gaming or 5.1 "headphones" (barracuda included) to know that they should not have been made in the first place.

forgive my harshness on those so called "headphones". my audiophilia is mainly on headphones. i currently have the Beyerdynamic DT990 '05 (which i drove alone for 5 hours one way into another country just to get them) and also a pair which i modded myself (can be seen here). and yes...i use them both for gaming... (and of course music and movies as well...mainly music). i am also currently hunting for a Beyerdynamic DT770PRO/80 (another highly recommended headphone for gaming if running with a headamp). and yes...i would make that 5 hour drive again if needed to get them. sadly, theyre discontinued (replaced with the DT770 '05) and are a lil rare to find these days.

just so u know the extent of my headphilia....(which isnt that bad compared to the dudes over at head-fi.org) :D

He's not saying that other headsets don't offer much better sound for the price, and they do. He's saying that the directional sound is a great thing to have when playing a game. I, for one, tried to use the option for directional sound with my 2 speaker headset, but it doesn't work nearly as well as I had hoped. Try it out as a friend's if you can and see what you think.

Wow. That cleary shows you don't play with other people in vent/teamspeak. We're talking about buying a headset not headphones. The very last thing you want to do is buy an additional crap mic that sits on your shirt. Usually the sound quality is terrible and when you can just have the mic attached to the headset, why buy something different?

I thought this person didn';t won't a mic on the head set I thought he wanted one with out the mic yet it be a gaming head set. At least that is what I thought I could have this person mixed up with another.

I'm kinda looking for the same think but with out a mic and I don't won't a surround sound 5.1 set either not unless it was cheap but non the less.

I wonder if they make wireless headsets that would be nice but then again I have enough wireless stuff in my room. So I do need a wired one and a long cable probably around 8 to 12 ft. buy if they don't come like that then I would like to add on but just not sure of how too.

im not quite sure of the model number on my headset, but I am compelled to agree. The sound on headphones is demonstrably superior to the sound on stereo speakers. you simply cannot go wrong investing 30$ in a headset with an attached microphone

nope...i dont do teamspeak etc...i dont even have a mic as im not bothered to own 1 as i dont need one.

and i take it u didnt check up on the Zalman clip on mic?

the mic is small and actually cips on to the cable...and its also one of the better mics out there for cheap. so no...its not a crap mic that clips onto ur shirt

keep in mind that my main reason for mentioning the A500 is due to the price, soundstage and positioning and sound quality that would stomp alot , if not all headsets out there.

but if u really want a killer "headset"...mod it to one. like some dude did over in head-fi but i cant find the link....wicked mod though.

and if ur so insistent on a damn headset...get a Sennheiser headset or something. like the PC-160.

audio should remain with audio companies as these companies know what theyre doing.... get a gaming company to make audio and it turns to crap.

What this guy is saying is that: higher-end headphone audio quality >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>!!! gaming headset audio quality Separate mic quality < or = headset mic quality. which is pretty much true, imo. the sound quality difference between a dedicated audio headset and a 'gaming headset' is MASSIVE - the difference in mics definitely not so much, especially when it comes down to something unidirectional that simply works. it's a bit selfish, but as long as our voice is clear i think most would rather have better sound for us instead of everybody else. :D the non-gaming headphones like the A500 are marketed towards people that are simply after raw audio quality, and are forced to stand on their own merits rather than being what is intended to sell largely on the basis of being a 'gamer' product.

You're $10 off. $40. The Sennheiser PMX100s are $40, and are far and away better then any $30 pair of headphones on this earth. Even some more expensive ones for that matter.
