Ok, so I recently decided to install the OS Ubuntu 9.04 x64 bit. And I was wondering how it works for gaming. I like linux, because its cleaner than Windows, and cheaper than Mac. If there are any more programs I need to download with 9.04, can someone please post a link and info? thanks

You must have lots of time on your hands. I suggest you strat reading ubuntu forums and get ready for long nights. That's where you should start looking.

practical and hustle-free gaming doesn't exist for linux,
you can try using Wine, but not all games work with it
the truth? i tried using linux, but i am a gamer, and very few developers make games for it, heck even ATI and Nvidia are only putting half baked drivers for it.
can you expect anything else? linux has 1% desktop market share, not a lucrative market for game companies.

In general, commercial games != Linux. You can use WINE which will get most of your games to work, but I don't use Linux to play games anyway. Start on the Ubuntu Forums and familiarize yourself with the terminal commands if you have never used Linux before. Personally, I'd stick with Windows if you want to play games. For the most part, you'd need to dual boot Windows on a Mac for games too.

It's good to me. With no "hacking" of Wine, I can run Portal, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Unreal tournament, Jazz Jackrabbit 2, Sonic Adventure DX (PC version), and, with the aid of DOSBox, Duke Nukem 3D, HOMM2, Full Throttle, and Jazz Jackrabbit 1.

If you have an Nvidia card, you are good to go. (ATI's linux drivers are not very good, but are getting better...I have an ATI, and I cannot get some games that are known to work to run on my machine)

Wine has a database of games that work well with it; you can check any game you have against it.
