I posted here several times already about my MSI laptop's games moving in slow mo after about a week after installing the OS:(. Well MSI service centers could not find out the cause of the problem, so I did the next best thing, I sold it (& that felt good:D).

So now I'm planning on buying a new laptop, but this time I'm not just gonna buy the cheapest one (Unlike last time). This time I'll be thinking real hard about it, that's why I'm posting this here, I want to hear what you people, the REAL gamers think, about which brand is the most dependable? Which graphics card should it come with? Everyrthing.

As always, thanks for the suggestions......

No matter wut (gaming)laptop you chose , it allways slows down after a while.

it"S a good idea to ALLWAYS make an IMAGE of your c-partition after you"ve installed your OS,web-browser, and drivers.

THAT way you can allways come back to your "clean" system without having to worry about all the trojans, worms , useless programms etc ...

When things slow down on my laptop i make a back-up of my save-games , xlive ,etc on an external back-up device.

i use macrium reflect to put my back-up image of my "clean"system back in under 10 minutes.

All i have to do is update my windows, drivers and firefox to the latest (10 minutes).

It beats having to to a clean install (1 to 3 hours)

The Asus G73 is the best thing I ever bought gaming-wise. Runs like a champ, no slowdowns, and all new/newest games run great on it (high/very high/extreme) settings.

I frequently check gpu temperatures- never a problem, even after long gaming sessions.

I run my Asus with stock bio and stock gpu drivers.

I bought my unit in October of last year -not one GSOD or BSOD.

99.9% of problems are problems the user himself created due to incompetent handling of the hardware(overclocking processors and /gpus, opening up the unit, etc.), or using untested beta drivers.

In addition, I always keep my operating system up to date, use MSE as my antivirus software, scan my system on a regular basis, and don't download any crap from some obscure Uzbekistan porn site.

The Asus G73 series is your best bang for the buck. I spent almost a year comparing and contrasting different brands and components. Alienwares are overpriced. The Asus G73 delivers more value for much less money.

Maingear. Alienware is Dell now and they put loads of bloatware on it. Alienware also charges you an arm and a leg for support. $500 for a three year software support package??? That's highway robbery. Maingear has ZERO bloatware and a lifetime support package free. They also build and support their PC's in the U.S. (Alienware is built in Mexico and supported in India). Check them out. I love em!

One of the best notebooks for less money from2010 for gaming.

Still i wish you could update the gpu and motherboard afterwards like in Sager gaming notebooks

My Asus K53SV has served me very well as a budget multi-purpose laptop.

It runs most modern games acceptably well, although I wouldn't use it for something really demanding like Metro 2033 or The Witcher 2. Its been pretty impressive for a 800 dollar laptop.

@simardbrad I tried for half an hour to find out how to make the poll and I couldn't find it, at some site it should just be up there. Back to topic. It seems most people choose ASUS. But what do you guys think about HP? I saw this HP laptop for $800 it's specs are: Intel core I5-2410M 4GB DDR3 (2x2) upgradable to 8GB 640GB SATA Radeon HD 6470 M 1GB DDR3 I also so an ACER for $700 its specs are: Intel core I5-2410M 2GB DDR3 640GB SATA nVidia GeForce GT 540M 2048MB DDR3 dedicated. Which one do you guys think is better for its price? Again thanx to everyone.

I use the MSI GX740... don't know what your MSI's problem was, this one is very capable.

MSI cards tend to overclock on the core very well. For example, my 5870 is capable of 920/1085 clocks, compared to base of 700/1000. That's a lot more than some of the other GPUs.

If you want the very best performance though, get the M18X from Alienware with 2x6990M.

Go Alienware if you want to burn your money. They're grossly overpriced, you're just paying for the brand name.

How do I stop it from overclocking exactly? My old laptops (the MSI) graphics card was Radeon HD 5470. I also so an ASUS laptop for $720, its spec were: Intel core I5 2410M 2GD DDR3 500GB SATA Nvidia GF 540(1GB) There was a cheaper version of this ASUS laptop for just $600 Intel core I5 450M 2GB DDR3 320 SATA Nvidia GF 310M (1G) I don't need the Laptop to be GREAT, I just want to be able to play ALL PC games on MEDIUM settings. Can those 2 Asus laptops or the HP & Acer laptops (I posted earlier) do that? Thanx again everyone, this is really insightful.

U gotta understand that most laptops aren't dependable and DO break down easy...specially gaming ones since they generate a lot more power and heat inside them

So you automatically assume that anybody that wants a pc that can actually game has no life outside of gaming? How ignorant.

You know what, if you don't want to listen to us, go ahead and buy a cheap laptop that has a **** graphics card. See if I give a **** if you waste money.

For a real gaming laptop (with 2 x GTX 580M cards), you're going to pay a hell of a lot more than a grand.

That's why I put quotes around "gaming" because it'd be able to game, but not max.

Asus G series - using one right now as my gaming computer, and it has been pretty great. Not sure about Alienware laptops, however the friend who has one has had hardware problems for the two years she has owned it.

Check out the Asus G series then, however keep one thing in mind - the battery life on gaming laptops are not great, pretty bad to be frank, even with power saving options. I own an Asus G53-JW and it runs games great, at 1080p, however there is a minority of hardware intensive games (as there usually are) which can't be run 'maxed out' as the hardware enthusiasts like to say. As someone who has always built their own PC for well over a decade, I'm actually pretty comfortable with the move, nor are they extremely expensive (Asus and MSI models at least), however you can't expect to get amazing hardware for the price of any laptop.

Haven't had a hardware problem with mine, keeping in mind one of the models massive perks is the large amounts of ventilation it has (yes even playing hardware intensive games in bed or on my lap, in the couch is perfectly fine), though I can see how certain machines might be a problem. It depends on the build and the brand, the one downside is that if something does happen, you must send it away - however the likelihood of something going wrong is far less then building your own machine.

Nope, they don't have ton's of bloatware. I have the m17x r3 and it's fantastic, it's 6970m blazes through just about anything. Cost just a bit above 2k before warrenty and tax. You can now get them with the 6990m or the nvidia equivilent. Dunno where you got your info but I got 3 years of accidental for 350 bucks on mine, and they send a tech out to me when something needs to be done instead of me mailing it back to them.. Plus Dell's 1080p LCD's have better viewing angles than just about every other manufacturer. I'm gonna have to with recommening Alienware's m17x r3. I also feel wary about buying brands that are very niche, very unknown because you don't know if they are gonna support you or not. Dell may hard to understand phone support, but they always get it done in the end, and it's been better lately compared to a while ago.

The pricing for support packages differ from model to model. It's well over $400 for a three year package on a XPS 9100. And their phone support as recently as this past July was enough to incite me to send the PC back to them. I'll never deall with Dell / Alienware again.
