Alright, I'm buying a laptop real soon, either a Toshiba or a Sager. Anyway which OS should I get for gaming. Windows XP or Windows Vista.

I want the GeForce Go 7950 GTX to be able to work smoothly with Vista.

I'm also wondering if Half Life 2, HL2 Ep1 and HL2 Ep2 would work on Vista. Would Oblivion and all of the other games work?

Basically which OS is better for gaming?

Oh and I read somewhere that some guy installed XP and Vista on his computer and then would just pick which OS to boot up from each time - that sounds like the best idea, but I'm kind of unsure as to how I would do that. Thanks. - Larry

Basically you probably are not going to have a choice now, they are shipping high end laptops with Vista.

Everyone keeps saying that, but some Dell gaming models and the Toshiba Satellite P100 and the Sager still give the option for XP

If you can get XP it's gonna be the better choice for about a year or more.

hey, well im running vista on my laptop and it runs every game i have thrown at it no problems at all, including oblivion, morrowind (which is quite old) etc. i dont think you really need to worry about xp/vista for gaming these days, more for personal preference with OS. enjoy your new rig

vista is a massive resource hog, it just has too much trash on it and its not as simple to use as xp is. however windows 7 comes out end of the yea and thats awesome. im running the beta of that and its just so much more streamlined. Vista is mostly gonna be forced on u but it can run most games.

You really can't be putting money into a gaming laptop. Its really not worth it. If your going to have a laptop for like school work and stuff, you should get one that is very power efficent.

If you are going to be playing games, you are better off investing into a real gaming computer.

If you're still on the fence, here's one more opinion. Get XP if you can, Vista is terrible, even Microsoft knows it. That's why they're developing Windows 7 already. I've tried the beta of Windows 7, and it looks good, but it's still more resource hungry than XP. Of course 7 does more funky things than XP and it just looks better, but avoid Vista at all costs is my advice, as someone who's used Vista and XP (and 7) on laptops ;)

Im using vista ultimate 64 on my gateway p-7811 FX and ill never go back to xp ever. I always have defended xp as the better OS untill i finally tried vista 64 and properly updated it / sp1 ect, and seriously, im never going back. I think vista has just gotten a bad rap since its rocky release but thats long since over and done.

Get Vista, and then upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out.
