I'm sure it's not better than my laptop:
3.06GHz Core i7-950 quad-core desktop cpu
6GB Kingston Hyper-Performance RAM @ 1066MHz
Geforce GTX 280M 1GB Memory
17" HD screen @ 1920 X 1200
320GB HDD @ 7,200 RPM

That's the chipset. It has an ATI mobile 4650. I wouldn't use that for gaming.[QUOTE="GuitarFreak2"]That's the chipset. It has an ATI mobile 4650. I wouldn't use that for gaming.chefkw
Thats an accetable video card to game on if you can deal with not going beyond medium settings on most modern games.
I beg to differ: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-4650.13883.0.html It is better than the 9600M. Yeah, you wont be able to play on max. But you will be able to play everything on medium/high settings.

That's right! i7's can be put in notebooks even though they are made for desktops. WIN!
I can run Empire Total War on high settings, 1920 X 1200, no AA, smoothly. I can run Fallout 3, WiC, L4D, and Company of Heroes, all on high 1920 X 1200, easily. I can also easily run TF2 on super high settings (picmip -10). Your desktops probably have nothing on my laptop!
The GTX280M is about as powerful as an 8800GTX. My GTX280 is quite a bit better than that :D Granted, you have me on the CPU, but for gaming, my CPU is usually better.I can run Empire Total War on high settings, 1920 X 1200, no AA, smoothly. Actually, the GTX 280M is slightly less powerful than a 9800 GTX+ desktop gpu. I can run Crysis on high @ 1600 X 1024 around 30 fps or so.
I thought that would be higher. My M15x gets nearly 10000 points with a T9300 and 8800M GTX. That's about the same score as my old desktop with an e6750 and an 8800GTX.

I don't think the cpu makes a real difference right now. In the benchmark, it's mostly gpu that matters. GTX 280M isn't miles better than your card, and I can't really see any laptop today breaking 15,000 3dMarks.
I just got my 3dMark06 score. It's in my sig.

At least I don't have to ship it to college via FedEx only to have them beat it up along the way like they did w/ my microfridge..
Yeah, this is a mightly fine laptop that I can bring anywhere I want without worrying about the shipping cost/hassle. Who knows? Maybe I'll be using it for CAD applications in my engineering curriculum down the road..
Do you think my score should have been higher? I could only pull off 14k + with dual GPU's, and that would mean sacrificing my i7 for a Core 2 Quad (not to mention $1200 more) to get an Alienware M17x. NOT worth it.
I don't have to ship my computer, just a 2 and a half hour drive for me :D
GuitarFreak2
Still, what would you do if you hit a large bump in the road and your PC happened to smack into a hard surface in your car? Wouldn't that screw you over? Desktops are so prone to damage when in transit. Besides, there isn't enough room in a dorm room for a worthy desktop..

My desktop was brought from 4 hours away by me in a vehicle and it sustained absolutely no damage

Sorry for this non topic question, but how does your 950 overclock? I am interested. And what average fps do you get in Empire? I get 60 when vsync is turned on, never tried without it because I hate image tearing.

A pitty that AMD does not have such laptop support... I'd get the similar one as you if they had a Phenom II in it. Otherwise, I am not spending on overpriced and useless I7. I mean, it is a cool processor, but for gaming it is useless.

It doesn't happen. My computer is packed in its box and is stuffed between a lot of other stuff. Plus, it's really heavy, so it doesn't move easily.[QUOTE="Noobivore36"]

I can't install extra cooling devices in my system so therefore overclocking is dangerous/risky (not worth the risk). Besides, overclocking my cpu wouldn't rly help my frames too much. In Empire, I think I get around 40-50 fps depending on the environment and battle size (high settings, no AA, 1920 X 1200). I think Vsinc isn't worth the framerate hit (similarly to AA), so I leave it off.
