I've tried the G5, G9, MX518, MX310, MX510, Copperhead and the Deathadder. But mouse I love most is my lovely WMO 1.1, I sorta liked the 3.0, but I find the way I hold my mouse to feel best on the WMO. Its a simple Microsoft mouse, not really meant for gaming, but its just perfect for it. No matter how many times I've tried to change, a simple $20 WMO 1.1 is best for me.
I still say DPI is overrated, having more is NOT better. It can help feel a bit smoother on super high res. And maybe for working in desktop environments higher dpi helps. But in games themselves. 400dpi is all I need, and still to this day, most of the best players in Quake use the WMO, WMO 1.1a, and IME 3.0. All 400dpi mouses, only real reason if you ever see them not using them is because of sponsors.(I believe same for most CS players, but not sure, I'm not a CS player)
But with all that said, still go with what is comfortable, and of course, as long as it doesnt skip. A skipping mouse, or a lagging mouse is always going to be a disadvantage, not matter what.
Keyboards mostly the same, I've seen some so called "gaming keyboards" still have huge ghosting problems. Couldnt even hold W+D+ SPACE down all at same time. But, still overall, comfort is what matters most. I tried all sorts of keyboards, pretty much all gaming ones. But I'm crazy when it comes to how keys feel. I LOVE how scissor, laptop type keys feel.
But even then, some keyboards just felt too mushy even with it being "scissor key". Finally settled on a BTC6100. Best keyboard I've ever felt, $20 bucks tool. Sometimes you get lucky with cheaper products being the most comfortable, which always gives you an advantage in games when your comfortable, sometimes you dont. How much DPI, size, brand, etc is just all matter of preference. Nothing less, nothing more.
