Do not get a wireless mouse, they then to glitch and lag quite a bit. Well I haven't used one that hasn't yet. The only real consideration is shape of the mouse and if it feels comfortable in your hand. Myself I'm a big fan of the Logitech design, MX510 all theway, and once I kill this mouse, I'll be getting the new G5, with two side buttons as I used them both currently.

On some surfaces, you absolutely need a laser mouse. Most of the time I think the difference is negligible. I use a G5, but my friend's MX518 is nice too.

at the moment im using a wireless optical mouse, its from microsoft and came with my mums laptop. I originally started using it as a spare but really liked it... so i kept it. For the first year and a bit ive had it I havent noticed any lag, it has very sharp reaction times.

If you mamnage to get a decent wire-less mouse the only downside is having to change the batteries. Something you will be doing alot if you ge a high DPI one.

As for laser vs optical I dont think that the difference will be noticeable(at least not by humans, are you human? :P). that is depending on what surface you use of course.

the wireless optical mice are kind of nice, but there is a really big problem with gaming. When your mice is idle for a few seconds, it's transmitter will turn off, so you will have to move the mouse around for a few seconds. This is done to conserve battery life. While one second may not seem like much, It can make all the difference when you are involved in an intense firefight over the internet.

If you are in an intense firefight, when would your mouse be idle for a few seconds? I use the MX1000 Laser BT. It does not lag at all. I have one at home and one at work. At work I use it for cad for around 10 hours a day. Always responsive even out of sleep mode. The laser is so precise that ANY movement instantaneously wakes it up. I see no advantage to a wired mouse. Also, I have used my work mouse 5 days a week for over a year and a half and have yet to fall below 3 bars of charge during the day. Just drop it in the charger and it's ready to go the next morning.

The G5 and the MX518 are almost identical other then the fact that the the G5 has laser and 1 less button
