Ok, i have the hardware, i have enough games, i have the mouse... the keyboard kinda sucks. So now, i wanna know what software i should need to keep my PC fast... and not only that, but just looking and running awesomely. Any suggestions to free software which may make my gaming PC even better. (i'm also thinking of a cool operating system skin if anyone has links to those) thanks!

Buy the Object Desktop kit. It's $20 and will let you customize your desktop in any way you can think of. You can also see and get some great skins and wallpapers from here: http://www.wincustomize.com/ . It's all user made, and the site is run by the same company that owns object desktop, which is pretty sweet.

Use Firfox or Operah to browse the net. DO NOT USE Internet Explorer! Using IE is like having unprotected sex with a hooker. You don't know what you are letting into your system with it.

Xfire is great for IM'ing and recording your game stats. It's like the Xbox Live of the PC.

Get adaware se and spybot search and destroy to help search for and remove the nasties from your system in additon to your antivirus.

Speed Gear makes your system run faster. It doesn't really work with online games though, and you have to be careful with it because if you set it to high you risk damaging your system.

If u mean fast by games, aplication....etc

For me the best choice is to get more ram cause software doesn't chance much. U should get some Tweakers for your type of windows if u want some boost.

And yeah, Windows blinds has so many processes in backround that slows your computer drasticaly.

Advice: if u want windows blinds or other programs that uses much processes than make sure u disable some startup programs that u don't need.

Click on Start>>Run>>>and type>> msconfig>>>>Startup and disabe what u need or not. If u are advanced in software u should check services category near startup.

Have a nice day:lol:

You should get "Spybot - Search & Destroy" and "Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal" because they are very good tools for removing spyware. They are free also.

Turn off all visual themes, etc. to get faster performance, but be sure to check back on smooth font settings, especially if you're using an LCD monitor. :)

This can be found by right-clicking the My Computer icon, clicking properties, and going to the advanced tab, and then performance settings, and choose "adjust for best performance," once that's clicked, simply turn on whatever you need (like the smooth font to make it easier on the eyes) but leave the rest unchecked.  :)

Generally, the less software you have running the better your system will run.  There are good tweaking programs out there for memory, processor, and video cards but whenever I start up my computer I hit ctrl+alt+del and shut down everything I dont need.

Let me address the enormous falsity here. There is absolutely no software on the planet that will make your computer "faster". Having more programs running on your computer will in fact slow your system down. People seem to think that the more types of protection against viruses, spyware and adware you put in place, the better. In fact, installing more than one anti-virus or anti-spyware program can have disasterous effects. Due to the nature of said programs and the level they run at on your system, it is extremely likely that conflicts will exist, often rendering the software (and in more extreme cases, the whole system) inoperable. Even if no such conflicts exist, you're still running two essentially identical programs, which is a complete waste of RAM and CPU resources. Obviously, you have to keep your system secure. You absolutely need an anti-virus; you absolutely need some form of anti-spyware; and you absolutely must not use any version of Internet Explorer. Even IE7 has too many exploitable privileges on your system to make it worth the risk of running it. Stick with either Firefox or Opera, depending simply on which you like better. As for security software, I recommend either AVG or AntiVir for viruses and -- believe it or not -- Windows Defender for spyware. All of those programs are free, and as long as you exercise some caution and intelligence about what you download, you shouldn't have any problems. And I love Stardock's software suite. I think it allows you to create a level of usability in Windows that makes any potential slowdown or use of system resources irrelevant. Your programs may suffer a second or two here or there, but you're more easily accessing them, and at a much faster rate anyway. On top of that, it makes your system truly your own, and -- not that I'd know anything about this, of course -- potentially even makes it easier to conceal certain places on your system from prying eyes. ;)

I'm sure it does to some degree, it's an extra process running in the background for the desktop (Think Vista -- not that I'm knocking Vista, it's worked like a charm for me :))

On my machine that has it installed (Athlon XP 3200+, 1 GB ram, GeForce 6600GT), any slow down is definitely NOT noticeable.
