How well would this play games?

64 X2 4400+

1GB DDR2 800

7900GS

Win 2000 PRO

What could I push the settings to in games like KotOR, Republic Commando, and other older games? What about newer games like... well Bioshock and Crysis I guess since they are newer.

note: the specs are final

You'll need another gig of RAM and DEFINITELY a copy of XP Home,2000 is no good anymore.

Actually, KotOR does not really have a lot of graphical settings to play with, compared to current games, but that quality of system would run it at the highest it has. Can't tell you about that other old one, and I can tell you that a lot of the most recent games don't like Win2K, and you may have to try to create work-arounds to use that OS. I have both Win2000 and XP on the gaming PCs because most games run faster and smoother in W2K than in XP -- in my experience, anyway.

(Edited) P. S. A majority of games the last four years, that only mention WindowsXP in the requirements, can be operated in Win2K with almost no adjustments at all. You can also expect more games to start running better in more than only 1 GB of RAM, as the influence of Vista (which acts as if it needs 2 GBs to do much of anything) is felt more and more.

What the - Win 2000? Not that I have anything against 2000 (in fact - I loved that OS before XP)

Old games can be maxed out, Bioshock can be also, Crysis might run on high at a lower resolution. But all in all, that rig runs rings around the one you have now :D

I basically have the same set up, I have a Pentium D 2.66 ghz, 1 Gig of DDR2 667 RAM and a massively overclocked 7900 gs. I can play Republic Commando easily on max settings 4x AA at 1600 x 1200. However My computer has issues with KotOR and it won't let me play. I don't know about the other games though. I haven't bought bioshock or downloaded the demo. Same with Crysis.

It would be a huge step up from the system in your sig. You'll be able to play most titles with it, maybe not maxed out, but they'll run fairly well. :)

Cool! Because I have the case, OS, HDD, and DVD-RW combo drive; it will only cost me $350. Since my Xbox is fizzling out, I need something quick, and this seems like a better buy than a 360 to. For the price of a 360, I will be able to get the PC and all of the games I want for it.

Ya, I will slap another GB in it as an upgrade. I will also need to get XP someday. What is better? XP home or pro? I do networking for StarCraft.

W2K will do networking, better than XP Home. If you want networking and gaming go with XP Pro...although expect to pay roughly 50% more for it over XP Home.

Ya, the price is not appealing, but I will be bumed if I cannot play StarCraft 2 over a network when it comes out. That will be a while away though, so I might just get XP home.

You mean Starcraft over a LAN or over the Internet??

I'm pretty sure you can still do networking with XP Home - just there are less options.
