I just downloaded Garry's mod for HL2 (it looks awesome) so i was just wondering how to install it and where to put it (folder). I'm too afraid i might mess it up, thx to those who help.

no only HL2 cause i got the orange box
hate to break it to you but you cant play it without all those games. you'll have to settle for the *shudder* ugh, v7a. or you could just buy gmod 10 (strongly recomended)

EDIT: if anyone noes some other good HL2 mods that only requires HL2 (and noes the instructions on how to install it), plz let me noe.
To install a mod it depends on what file it is, if it is an .EXE file then it will have an installation program and you just follow the instructions. if it is a .ZIP file then download it and extract the files in your Steam/steamapps/sourcemods folder.
i know, super bump here.. but for gmod 9, i only had HL2:lost coast, and it works fine, u just gotta install it to your steam sourcemods folder, then in the tools section of steam, install Source SDK and Source SDK base, go back to ure gmod folder, open up gameinfo.txt, then change it so it looks like this: "GameInfo" { game "Garry's Mod 9" title "Garry's Mod" title2 "Nine" "developer" "TEAM GARRY" "developer_url" "http://gmod.garry.tv/" "icon" "v" hidden_maps { "test_speakers" 1 "test_hardware" 1 } FileSystem { SteamAppId 215 // This will mount all the GCFs we need (240=CS:S, 220=HL2). ToolsAppId 211 // Tools will load this (ie: source SDK caches) to get things like materials\debug, materials\editor, etc. SearchPaths { Game |gameinfo_path|. Game hl2 } } } restart steam, it will be a pac-man face oh, and for the poster above me, you should be able to, if it shows up in ure steam as pre-loaded, but u need to purchase it, it SHOULD work, but getting the Source SDK kits are more reliable
I'm not sure if you have decided yet but I would highly recommend purchasing Garry's Mod 10 from Steam, you get all future updates for free and it can work with just one of any Source game. Now the graphics from other games will appear as a big red ERROR but it isn't game killing since pretty much everyone has Portal and Half-Life 2 now. If you make the purchase, see you online! :>
