I am looking for a Gaming Notebook between the range of $1,000 and $2,000 base price. I am interested into the Gateway P Series FX Notebook and was wondering if anyone had actually experienced this model or if they have any ideas for other brands/models (not interested into the Alienware Brand).

I'm looking for convenience. And besides I'd like to be able to take my computer classes and things. I use it for more than just gaming.

It seems to be a good deal. Do you think I should hold off and use the notebook I have now until Windows 7 or how many years it that away from being out?

I just got a asus g50vt for $1200 on new egg. they have good specs and play games right now good. they also come with a 2 year parts coverage and 1 year drop coverage included in that price. plus i had a gateway notebook and swore never to get one again from them it was crap and cheaply made.

It weighs about the same as a PC... Get a normal laptop for school and a PC for gaming. Or compromise and get a laptop with a 8600 or 9600 GPU. My friend got one of those P Series and the power brick is about the size of your head and weighs about 3-4lbs alone. The laptop itself weighs 12-14lbs, which is a pain to carry around anywhere, especially with books on top of it. It's a decent desktop replacement, but the LCD display (max res is 1440x900 right?) is pretty bad considering the graphics card and CPU that backs it.

Whatever you do, get an extended warranty on it. Gateway are **** for warranty coverage or support. And they will do and say anything to get out of actually helping you when (not if) things go wrong with their product. I'm more or less in my own catch-22 right now with my latest monitor from them. I'd like to not do business with them again, but nobody else sells a monitor even remotely as feature-filled as the FPD2185W I have from them. So even though I don't want to buy anymore gateway products, the only effective replacement I'd be able to afford... is another Gateway.
