I have been researching this laptop a LOT and all the YouTube videos and benchmarks look really good. However, I don't know a lot about PC hardware and gaming, so I guess what I'm trying to figure out, is whether games running on this computer, in your opinions, would run with comparable graphics to a Playstation 3 at comparable frame rates. It's a popular model but the specs are as follows:

Processor: Dual Core 2.26GHz (1066 MHz FSB, 3MB L2 Cache)

RAM: 4GB 1066MHz DD3 Dual Channel

Hard Drive: 7200 RPM SATA

Graphics: GeForce 9800 GTS 1GB

I have trouble interpreting a some of this information and translating it to real-world performance, so I'd appreciate your evaluations before I decide to buy. And if anyone says "Don't buy a laptop," I will seriously freak out. I wouldn't be asking if I didn't want a laptop.

It looks nice, though the CPU looks a little weak when compared to the 9800GTS Though it looks like a nice gaming laptop

Thanks for the input, guys. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how this stacks up against a PS3 or 360, though? I can handle anything above 30FPS, for sure, but graphics wise I really don't want to downgrade. I also realize the max resolution isn't that great compared to consoles but on a screen that small I could handle 1280 x 800 if it meant bumping up the details; maybe even less than that. YouTube videos make it tough to discern the level of detail and my computer right now is so awful it can't even play YouTube HD videos without dropping frames, not to mention all the YouTubes have FRAPS.

Any thoughts on how it stacks up?

I am curious to know myself, I am looking at this exact model laptop because its in the exact price range I am looking to spend. Although I made a post about this laptop and get replys from people saying I shouldnt get it and they would link me to a much more expensive laptop.

i do many different things with this laptop. from gaming to surfing, word, play dvds ect ect. As an alround laptop that can do gaming on top of it, to me is great. Thats exactly what i get from this gateway 7811 FX. hasn't disapointed me yet. For the price vs performance, i say you really cant go wrong.
