Since Borderlands 2 will be released on the 18th, I was curious if indeed the PC version also included splitscreen support like the outdated consoles have. This is my main selling point. Turns out it does not.

"No, split-screen is not currently supported on PC due to technical reasons."

That's not what I'm mad about. Anyone remember this little snippet:

Gearbox's Hypocritical Letter

What? Way to go Gearbox, you did all that extra work and STILL managed to screw it all up by omitting out a CORE selling feature of the Borderlands Franchise: Splitscreen co-op. And whats this BS about 'technical' reasons for not including it huh? No... you bastards were probably too lazy to finish the half-assed job that you did... again.

This makes absolutely no sense since (modern gaming) computers far surpass the power of gaming consoles. And what's so different when it comes to connecting a computer to a large TV? Controller problems are not a huge hassle since there are programs to work with both xbox and playstation controllers. So tell me, why am I forced again to buy a separate inferior console version just for splitscreen? Yeah, Borderlands 2 is all about co-op play... **** (Just a thought... wouldn't the PC version that has a missing feature fall under the pretext of false advertising by any chance?)

Screw that, because of Gearbox's incompetence, they have lost me as a potential customer.

This is why closed doors development exists and probably why its better off for developers to say "no comment". If they didnt say anything about the PC version, I bet you would have bought it anyway. Having followed hype for years, rule of thumb: Even if a dev says something about a game - dont count on it.

I agree, but they lost my business for a different reason. The vendor I bought the first Borderlands from couldn't sell any of the DLCs, and none would work if you bought them from anywhere else. All Gearbox succeeded in doing was angering a lot of gamers who purchased their game in good faith.

I agree sucks that they lied and won't be including it in pc version if the small dev team for serious sam 3 could incorporate 4 player splitscreen I'm not buying that gearbox couldn't do it for borderlands 2. Pretty much lost any interest in buying the game on any system if they do add in splitscreen at later on I'll get it when its like $10 or less on a steam sale.

Have to agree with this. I read your link over and over and I cannot even seem to find where they mention split screen.

Borderlands isn't even a good game. It's extremely boring, and absolutely nothing to do. Co-op isn't even that good. Just goes to show good marketing and music really sells games.

Also goes to show everyone has their own opinions, and yours isnt fact. I loved Borderlands. Over 100hrs in it, much of it was solo. Preordering number 2 easily.

Some opinions are outliers too...for instance SystemsGO loves long flowing manly hair mods

Gotta agree with most folks here wrong system if you want split screen co-op. I don't remember Gearbox ever promising this feature on the PC, and to be perfectly frank it's an extremely rare feature on the PC. I understand if this feature makes the game a no-sell for you, but being angry over it seems silly. It's not a common PC game feature, and they never promisesd it in the first place.

Anyways couldn't be more excited for Borderlands 2! First was really fun and from what I've seen/read from the second it looks like BL2 will be great.

I don't see where they had promised split screen. Sucks for the TC that they don't have it but as far as I can tell it was neevr going to be in anyway.

I liked Borderlands for awhile but the troubles with Co op and inevitable boredom that sets in after playing for a week makes me vote NO to buying this.

No where did they promise splitscreen, in fact if you are expecting splitscreen on the PC, then you are playing on the wrong platform. Yes, some do offer splitscreen, but most of those titles are also on the 360/PS3 or some for some games it's real easy to add it (Worms). If this was for the 360/PS3 version, than yea I can see why people would get upset, but it isn't. Besides, they said there will LAN support, so you still have that.

How much split screen even work on a PC? Would someone plug in another keyboard and mouse? Would you hook two computers of to a LAN (which isn't really split screen). Does someone use a controller?

They didnt lie. They never said the PC version would have split screen. Why did you expect it anyway? Very few titles have split screen on the PC.

Split screen co-op is rarely on the PC. Even with the biggest co-op games of all time.

You're really ranting about a moot issue on the PC.

With the PC we don't have splitscreen, we have lan parties. That's how it's been since the 80s. You're getting worked up over nothing.

I dont see the big appeal of split screen gaming, its cool to share a room with friends in tennis or Steet fighter type games where you can all share the same view but why would anyone want to play a fps or racing game in split screen when they can have a whole TV/monitor to themselves? Its distracting, annoying and other players can just look over to your part fo the screen and see what your up to. Whatever happened to link-up? Split screen is such an old fashined way to play multiplayer.

Please cite where split screen was promised for the PC version.

So you can prove they're hypocrites, and actually reinforce whatever argument you had.
Once you've done that then you wont look ridiculously childish.

Get a friend to bring there computer over and do up a lan. Split Screen on a small pc monitor does not work very well.

Its very rare to get split screen on a pc release, consoles might be more your thing if thats what you want.

Also when did they promise this feature? I dont remember is beign promised ever.

It actually seems like Gearbox is putting alot of effort into this release, which is nice.

Hey, atleast they didnt lie about features up until the day the game got released like Darksiders2 devs.

Complaining about split screen not being on a PC version of something is like complaining about Halo not being on a Nintendo system or complaining about guns not being in an Elder Scrolls game.

Like, areyouf***ingkiddingme? Its stupid, and whoever complains about it is stupid, and they live in a world of dumb s***s and the only currency in that world is stupidity.

Please OP, please please please, don't complain about idiotic things nobody cares about. Judging by this thread, the only discussions going on are "who the hell cares about split screen on PC?" and "why is OP such a whiny baby?" Splitscreen is not something anyone utilizes on PC, its not something Gearbox will spend time working on for NOBODY to utilize it, and I think a single guy complaining on the internet forum is something absolutely nobody at Gearbox would see, and if they did I'd like to think they'd deinclude it from a future release just to spite the single person who cares about split screen on PC because he is annoying.

Also I guess I should point out I'm not this big a d**k normally, and yes directly insulting the OP is a bit immature, but I find issue with entitled gamers and general, and especially find issue with gamers who are entitled to nonexistant features that were never promised and nobody wanted. It is mind bogglingly stupid and pointless.

The fact is, Borderlands 2 is built around a co-op experience. Some people play games together.. in the same house, god forbid, in the same room and on the same TV! And some of those people obviously would prefer to play their games on PC.

You'd think on a PC gaming forum of all things, people would understand. I don't think it matters if its an oft-used feature or not. PC is all about customization and tailoring it to your needs, and having to rely on playing the console version of something you want to play is not a proper solution.

Some ridiculous responses in this thread. Reminds me of when people ask how to set up a controller to work on their PC and get backlash for not using a kb and mouse.

With the advent of affordable HDTVs with native PC inputs, I really have to wonder why more computer games don't offer split-screen multiplayer (or any local multiplayer). Plenty of people have their PCs hooked up to their TVs for gaming, DVDs, Netflix, recording television programs, etc. Is there a compelling reason not to include a local multiplayer option in PC games? PC gamers hang out with people in person, too.

There is nothing wrong with wondering about it or hoping for it, but two things:

1. The feature is something PC gamers do NOT ask about, and something they would put in time and money to develop that very few people would use and absolutely no notable number of the community has wanted or even assumed. People don't generally PC game on the couch with a bunch of controllers getting together like someone would on Halo or Goldeneye, while the technical issues come more from weaker end PC's and OP just assuming they'll ignore a large portion of their PC gaming market and only create it for people with higher end rigs.

2. OP comes off as an entitled jackwagon in his post, calling them hypocrites, saying they lied and saying they lost a customer (as if Gearbox cares about one guy not buying their game that will sell millions of copies). He is ranting, annoying, misinformed and acting like your average smug internet jerk who thinks the world revolves around them and that something nobody wanted not being in a game = developers being entitled hypocrites.

Its not the same as asking about controller use and such either, since most games support the use of gamepads and a good many PC gamers prefer them for a variety of games. Splitscreen is something very, very, very few PC games offer and that almost no PC gamers care about or ask for. Its generally a console exclusive feature, and something that was born on consoles, even today many console games are losing split screen support as online gaming becomes prominent so its a wonder someone on PC of all things would ask for it.

More PC games should have split-screen. Contrary to popular opinion, PC gamers don't necessarily have friends that are PC gamers. I only know a handful of people IRL with a gaming PC. Unless you're part of some "PC Gaming club" at high school, I fail to see how LAN is more convenient than split-screen. Unless you guys are expecting to buy all my friends gaming PCs so I can play PC games with them.

EDIT: I forgot I was talking to a bunch of hermits. :P

So, you would have no problems what so ever if your consoles decided to take a dump for the worst, which by the way, you were in the process of playing local co-op with a friend. But that's okey, you have a computer decent enough to run that same game. And so you and your friend could finish the game now, right? Nope, that 'nonexistant' feature is not included in the PC version.

There is nothing wrong with wondering about it or hoping for it, but two things:

1. The feature is something PC gamers do NOT ask about, and something they would put in time and money to develop that very few people would use and absolutely no notable number of the community has wanted or even assumed. So you apparently can not hold respect about others stating about their opinions. Might I ask, do you work for Gearbox by chance? So you are perfectly fine with a half-assed product released for PC while the finished versions are console exclusives via one feature?

Taken from the main page:

http://www.2kgames.com/#/games/borderlands-2

"Team up with up to three other players for four-player online goodness or go old-school with two-player split-screen couch sharing mayhem as you spend hours leveling up your character and equipping them with one of the millions of badass weapons."

True, it nowhere says that this is in the PC version. But just remember that someone who is not aware of this will still assume that the PC version also includes this feature.

sSubZerOo

So its my fault that this console generation is rampant with hardware failures? And I'm the only one who had their investment shot to hell when my PS3 console decided to break itself by overheating? Last time I checked when the PS3 still half-worked, the frame-rate in the Badlands map of Borderlands was abysmal around in the mid 20's.

That's quite an assumption to make...

You guys still haven't figured out that you can use controllers with your PC?

Here are some games I've had plenty of split-screen fun with:

- Left 4 Dead

- The Worms series

- Serious Sam series

- Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

- Trine 1 and 2

- Street Fighter 4

I'm sure there's a bunch more I'm forgetting. But split-screen in PC games isn't nearly as rare as people make it out to be. Developers have included it multiple times in situations where it would greatly enhance the game. This is one of those situations, but it seems like Gearbox isn't willing to put in that little extra love.

Its not that its nonexistant or that its not an appreciated feature, but it is quite rare, at least in comparison to consoles where I don't know a single person without at least two controllers. Even on consoles split screen is dying, and of course here OP is just whining and making wild proclamations towards Gearbox about a feature they aren't entitled to add.

Its a great feature and its nice they even got it to consoles in an age where so many games are neglecting split screen completely, but just mouthing off like a 12 year old about how Gearbox are a bunch of hypocrites and how you won't ever buy their games and they suck and blah blah blah, for one small feature MANY games don't have, which they were kind enough to explain, is really something that makes someone come off as just really, really unlikable and terrible, and its not doing any favors for getting more split screen support from developers when some of the few people who really want it might be people like this.

I love split screen gaming and I appreciate its existance in some PC games, but I go to consoles for split screen gaming, and pointing out cases where its viable (people with their PC connected to HDTV's, people with friends who don't have a console or a gaming PC yet want to game with them) is missing the point. Its laughable even to just assume the developers have to make every version exactly the same in capabilities or that they even have to make a PC version with extra support when they could just do a quick and dirty port, then do a massive childish rant on how terrible they are for not putting in a feature 98% of games don't support on PC, a feature that is somewhat dying all over. Split screen was never a PC feature, just because some developers take the time to add it in does not mean it is some standard feature every game should have and one you should scream and rant about just because its not there on a platform nobody would use it on anyways.

But OP could just be trolling now that I look back on the absurdity of it all ("no split screen that was never promised or talked about, that never had to be in any version in the first place? OMG Gearbox is tex suxorz!!!").

No splitscreen? But think of all the children! Seriously, way too many parents are buying their little kids gaming PCs :(Zubinen
Why automatically assume the topic creator is a kid? I'm a 16 year old boy in high school, I dont care about splitscreen. It has nothing to do with age. In fact splitscreen would more likely be preferred by older people as it isn't nearly as common now as it was 5, 10 years ago. And my parents didnt buy me a gaming PC, most of my computer is left over parts from my Dad's computer, and the few parts that are new like the CPU and motherboard I worked for.

Its one thing to ask about or request split screen, it is another thing altogether to call a developer lying hypocrites because they didn't put splitscreen in when they never said they would in the first place.

It seems to be a pc gamer you have to have an immense irrational hate towards gamepads and splitscreen and anyone who wishes to use them.

What are you freaking serious???
Who the fock wnts split screen on PC?It's freaking 2012...we play co-op from different PC's...split screen is an obsolete technology...

IxX3xil3d0n3XxI

Have to agree with this. I read your link over and over and I cannot even seem to find where they mention split screen.

Since OP probably also uses Windows 95, I am quoting myself here, I got this link from the link you posted in the OP. This is the PC exclusive features. No where in there does it say split screen. So yea you can use the other think where it does say split screen even though its clearly talking about console versions(because theres the link in the quote that is PC EXCLUSIVE).

People will b**** about anything. They didnt lie. You misread it. Buy it or dont and move on.

So people actually are happy that the PC version has less features than the console versions? This forum just gets worse and worse every year.

Third time with this link

Consoles dont have everything on this list.

Even if they did, saying its worse because of not having splitscreen is like saying a car is bad because it doesnt have the rocket components equipped to enter orbit at will.

Or like saying a Space Shuttle is worse then a boat because it misses the "float on water" feature that is literally something space shuttle crew do not ask for and something that is generally one of the reasons one goes to a boat over a space shuttle. Who the hell goes to PC for splitscreen gaming, and who then complains when it lacks a feature nobody asks for and nobody uses, on a platform ill equipped for it in comparison to consoles that were built for that kind of social couch gaming from the start?

PC Gamers: They get better graphics, higher resolution, customization options for key bindings and visuals, specific features, and because it lacks split screen (a thing almost every multiplatform game except a select few with it do not extend to the PC version), they'll still whine and cry foul and hate on a game they likely were not going to buy in the first place. May as well call the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 the definitive version because it has one week early access, ignoring all the other PC features like some massive idiot.

Its no more of a joke then console splitscreen infact when implemented it will do it better due to greatly increased processing power and spending several hundred dollars on a separate gaming pc,monitor, mouse, keyboard and a separate copy of the game just to play in the same room isn't the samething as splitscreen where all you need is a $30 360 controller and one gaming pc + monitor/t.v

Splitscreen gaming isn't all that popular anymore, not even on consoles.
