You absolutley cannot go wrong with either one, I just got CoD4 yesterday and the campaign is short, but it's why I started on Veteran. Now its pretty "long" just cuz I die so damn much.
I haven't played a demo as much as the Crysis demo. I played the Beta, and when it gets it's kink's worked out, and the new content, OMG it's gonna be so amazing, it's radically different from CoD4.
Honestly, the CoD4 multiplayer is amazing, and there are alot of game modes and all that, but the Power Struggle thing in Crysis alone is awesome, I mean, the Beta had only 1 map, and people were playing that game till they got absolutely sick of that map, which alot of people still played, the maps are HUGE too, so lots of helicopters and tanks and people in nanosuits jumping around, it's just crazy.
The multiplayer in gears is also great! I've spent alot of time online, it's just pure fun, no bells and whistles like CoD and Crysis.
The campaign in CoD4 is short, but man, it is the best campaign in the CoD series, wow was it incredible, I'm actually glad people complained alot about the Campaign, because I was blown away by it's campaign, and the demo for CoD, doesn't do JUSTICE for that game, I was a fool to judge the game by it's demo, the graphics are crap in the demo, but excellent in the retail, and the demo level, was pretty much the only 100% "walk forward and shoot" level in the whole campaign, the rest were open ENOUGH to where you could be tactical.
The multiplayer in CoD is fun, and it's addictive, but it's not this epic and stunningly incredible thing people made it out to be, TF2 is still better IMO, but CoD's multiplayer is definetly it's strong point, perks are cool, and they are useful, but if you don't level up fast, they are practically useless, but guess what, leveling up is easy! Multiplayer is very very fun, but man, I expected so much more from what people were telling me.
