so today i bought gears of war for the pc and when i got home i went to go install it, it took a rather long time but it got to about 75% through and just stopped and my computer froze, so i rebooted my computer and tried again and it only went to about 50% and froze up again. I have tried this numerous times and now im lucky if it gets to 25%. does anyone know what i have to do or if i can fix this problem?????

ps it now will always coem up with a thing saying ERROR 1305, error reading from file D:/program files/microsoftgames/gears of war/war game/cookedpc/environments/COG_City_Ephyra.upk.comp. Verify that the file exists and that you can acess it.

this will come up at a random time during the installation

Dunno about the error message but GeOW installation is the worst I've seen for any game. It nearly took an hour to install the damn game on my rig, It was "decompressing the files" for close to 45 minutes.

i wouldn't know how to fix the problem, but i'd suggest going back to the store you got this game from and getting another copy. at the very least, if the problem persists, you'll know that the problem isn't defective discs.

It won't show any messages after successful installation or atleast it didn't to me. So if it completed decompressing, it might already have istalled it on your system.

Name another game that takes 10gb of disc-space (compressed onto a dual-layered DVD, hence-why it needs to decompress on your harddrive) that doesn't take nearly an hour to install.

Anyways, are you sure all your hardware components are operating properly? I just find it odd that it locks-up during the install process. Something like that makes me curious if one of your devies is at fault.

I was exaggarating when I said 1 hour, but it does take the longest of all games I've played and you would know that I ain't the only one complaining about the installation if you frequent epic forums.

I wasn't, it did literally take an hour on my main gaming machine, and even longer on my laptop...

(now if only it actually ran nice and smooth with everything cranked up like it does on my laptop)

My computer must suck cause it took me around 4ish hours and after it was over I couldn't even play the game...I axcess the menu screen and pressed play, but all that open was a zip file launch.cab or something like that...the game wouldn't even open at all when I click on the GOW icon in "my computer", could it be my computer is too slow, not enough memory?

that game was a pain to make it work but i found out that the update windows tells you how to install the game once u have resolution 1024x768. so it went to **** website installed hotfix, but games crashed again, even setting off full screen cause windows error msg dont go away even with alt tab, so i went i binary files make a shortcut with startup icon down the file, run the game with it so finally works, even tends to crash sometimes but works better now, even if i cant play online cause i dont have gold memmbership, or is there another way to play multi without paying membership, im on vista aith ati radeon 1650 and i registered live game.

Ok, this actually works, well it did for me. I fixed the 1305 error while installing Gears of War without having to buy another copy of the game. 1) First I deactivated the Data Execution Prevention, To do this(on XP) go to Control Panel then double click on system then click the Advanced tab then click on Settings under Performance. Click the Data Execution Prevention and turn it on only for essential windows programs. Click OK, no need to restart. 2) When you encounter the error 1305 box with the retry/cancel box leave it up and open and close your DVD drive. Wait until it reads the disc again and the lights stop flashing on the drive. 3) Click the retry button and it should start loading your files like normal. I would turn DEP back on after the install. Hope it works for you too!
