ok here's a quick summary of my rig

Q6600 (quad) Processor 2.4Ghz

8800GTS 320mb

Asus P5K deluxe motherboard

600W ps

4G ddr2 ram

vista basic

resolution: 1360 x 768

I cant find a hardware performance guide for GoW PC anywhere on the internet, not sayin there isn't one, but I cant find one, not even systemrequirementslab has anything, but I can't run this game onmax. If I turn texture detail down, aswell as some others, as well as dx 10 off, then it's a different story. I could run UT3 max no problem at all without a single slow down with only 8600 gts and 2G ram, and I can run Crysis 60% high and 40% very high. Why the hell wont this run smoothly on max?!!

no, I've had it since they were putting it on the shelf for the first time, and I'msayingit wont run on max smoothly. To tell you the truth, it runs smoothly, but when Marcus is walking/running/turning, it's really laggy and it almost seems like a glitch, also being honest I haven't downloaded any patches at all so that may be the problem..

That's MINIMUM requirements, like if you have some old crap of a pc and you just want to see if you can run this game at all with like everything set to lowest settings and 800x600 resolution lol. Notice how the next box below it(RECOMMENDED requirements) is blank. Gamespot usually does hardware tests for all major PC games, ie Crysis, Bioshock, World in Conflict. I wonder why they, along with all other gaming websites, haven't done a hardware test. I would've thought GS would have jumped at the opportunity to do a hardware test on a DX10 game. Whatever...

Download the latest Nvidia drivers. I had the same prob. It's not your hardware, it's the drivers. (While you're at it, try applying some thermal paste to your gpu for some extra performance).

Perhaps GoW does support 4-cores.

PS: you don't need to do this unless you intend to oc, and even then only if you want a after-market cooler.

loool I get it were laughing at this guy but why wouldn't applying thermal paste increase performanace? I mean its going to keep the gpu temperatures low if thats what its intended to do so this means less overheating better efficency , amirite?

Depending on your resolution you might be able to max out the game. Problem with your card is your vram. At higher res and max settings you will likely run into some issues.

I play at 1680x1050 with everything on max except for AA (which apparently is dx10) and vsync on and i get a solid 60fps in battles. Using an OCed 8800GTX.

If by UT3 you are referring to the demo i have heard that wasn't using all the textures. Once u hit medium that was max. I would agree b/c even on max the character models looked bad in the demo but i've seen some awesome looking models in the retail version.

If you upgraded to say the bigger GTS you could probably do a lot better b/c you will have more vram which a lot of games now are starting to require.

The problem your having is a streaming texture issue. You need to config the engine and if you need step by step just reply.

You can try the steam textures fix, but for me it just caused more lag (FPS dropped about 30). I have the same specs as you. Although I don't notice it jumping as much.

I heard with vista, if your vram runs out, vista borrows from your physical memory, so with 4G that shouldn't be the problem

All you guys laughing at my thermal paste comment are just not using your heads. It lowers the GPU temp, which makes the GPU run cooler (so you get better performance from that). It also lets you overclock more easily (Increasing performance again).

Geez, I thought the people at my high school are thick headed...

GPUs come all preset with thermal paste. all it does it allow heat to transfer more efficiently to the heatsync. Simply "adding" paste won't do you any good unless you either put high end paste on the gpu and reseat the heatsync, buy a new and better heat sync. But as one person has said the only time you need to add paste is if ur going to oc and add a better heatsync

Yes, it does come with thermal paste....extrememly god-awful thermal paste. When I removed the heatsink, it looked like someone poured cement 60 years ago onto my GPU. And FYI I am going to buy a better heatsink once I get my 8800GT (hopefully Christmas time).

Anyways (TRY TO KEEP ON SUBJECT PLEASE) I just tried it on max detail after downloading a new nvidia driver, and this is exactly what's happening:

- everything runs really smoothly (the odd drop in framerate but whatever)

- marcus, when he runs or moves quickily, is jaggid like he's lagging around, but everything stays the same so it's not a framerate drop. Yeah he looks exactly like a real bad lagger looks like online: everything is happening normally, but this one dude's flailing around

I doubt your computer is 1/4 of mine, here's what I'm just guessing you haveDual Core, 2G RAM, around the same video cardRight now crysis takes up only 70% of my physical memory (about 2G) and about 50% of my CPUso that means if you have a decent/good Core 2 Duo (or overclocked c2d) and 2G ram and the same video card, then yeah you can run it at high, it's just my video card that's holding me back

no not really your video card ain't holding you back there's something wrong with your computer ive seen benchmarks and its not that hard to max plus two people in this thread have maxed it with a x1900gt and a 2x 7950gt which your video card is way better than both of those
