Gears of War PC - please help (I need far too much help)

well after waiting half an hour for it to install, there's nothing there that tels me its finished, but since nothign else is happening I assume it's finished.

So, I click on the cd icon and wait to see if it works, I click play and:

1. "To run Gears of War with your current hardware setup, you must install the following software update or updates:

+ NVIDIA ForceWare 163.44 Driver


If you do not install this software, at some point the game will stop and your progress will be lost."

2. "To run Gears of War with your current hardware setup, you must install the NVIDIA Forceware 163.44 driver or a later driver from the www.nvidia.com/drivers website.

To install the update, click INSTALL.

I click install and it takes me to this site:

But there's nothing here that can help.

can anyone tell me what to do please?

Select the properties that apply to you.

1) Wait till it's finished. For me it too a RIDICULOUS amount of time to install. I didn't time it, but I would not be surprised if it took more than an hour. This game has the longest install I've ever seen by farrrrr.

2) Anyway. After it tells you it finished installing (just like all other installs, nothing special about this one except the length), you're basically ready to play. The message you're seeing basically says that your video card drivers are out dated, and recommends a newer version. You can still play, it just tells you that since the drivers are old, there's an arbitrary chance that the game might crash while you're playing, and thus you could lose all unsaved progress. It's like having sex using a really old condom. Maybe it works, maybe not.

Errrr, anyway. To upgrade your video card drivers you need to first download the new ones (pick the right card and OS from here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us) -> uninstall the old ones (go to Add/Remove Programs, and remove nvidia drivers) -> reboot -> install new drivers -> reboot -> done. If you need more details, you could try posting in the hardware forum.

And yes - it's worth the trouble :)

Guess what, found the drivers, installed em and then, the game conks out, shuts down n stuff.

I actually hate this game now

hey buddy i think u wasted ur money to buy Gears of war u should of just get it for xbox 360

if u want to play it on ur cpu then ur stuff need to be up to date thats wat i hate about cpu games

if the graphics aren't good then u need the best video card out there then the next month there will be maybe a new video card

i recomend nVidia Geforce 780i SLI

Where'd you buy it from? Most places wont take back open pc games.

Game, but they'll take it back if it's faulty, which I can pull it off that this one is, I hope..

my vid card is ati radeon 1600 serie

game wont start i cant get pass the update if its an update window, i dl a dos manual update from the game website , still crap game dont start and its not even telling game is finished installing.

If your good at tweaking you can easily tweaak the engine quite a bit to be better stable. People need to learn how to be good researchers at times to fill their needs. However if your still running across problems I can see what I can do.

edit: If your OS is Vista it's sometimes common when you finish installing games that it will never tell you it's complete rather you have to go in your games list and open it up.

im not to much into tweaking, my os is vista, never had any prob installing games expect 1 or 2 most recent one i installed was rainbow6 vegas and works fine, but i wonder if its my card but i hardly see its my card the min requierement are vista/xp, ati nvidia 700+ my pc is new i bout it last summer. so ill need some help on this one, i cant install it to many time over again, it takes like 1hr to install, so if i do it again ill need good and precise advice/help sorry im bit of a noob in this pc stuff.

had the same problem, I updated GoW to the latest patch and my 8800GTX to the latest driver set (169.25) and it ran like a dream.N3xus9
