Try updating your video card drivers if you havent already.
Does the studdering happen the same withe graphics on high and on low or more so on high?If it studders the same amount on low and on high then your processor is too slow. overclock your processor to like a 2.6 and i bet you wont have that problem anymore. You could overclock your videocard alittle bit. Or if you want to keep your processor at 2.4 then by an 8800gt. 8500 is simply may not be good enough. Is your 8500 built in or dedicated graphics?
He has a laptop, and probably has a locked bios, so no Ocing for him.Does the studdering happen the same withe graphics on high and on low or more so on high?If it studders the same amount on low and on high then your processor is too slow. overclock your processor to like a 2.6 and i bet you wont have that problem anymore. Good luck playing Gears on a laptop.
Did you instal the hotfixes for Vista?
If not then install them. If you have Vista SP1 then there is no need to.
It's kinda hard to run it on a laptop even tough you meet the requiremets:( sorry.

Yep I realized after my last post you are using a laptop to play Gears of Wars. I hate to be negative, but laptops generally dont have the needed computing power compared to a gaming desktop. It would be harder for you to play the latest games on your laptop. You do have a nice laptop.
