Apparently the Geforce 300 series is out. If you haven't had a chance to see this yet, go to the Nvidia website and check out the feature set.

Is this what we can expect from Nvidia for the 300-series? Clearly, this is the absolute entry-level card... but generally the feature set is more or less the same from top-to-bottom of a GPU "series."

So what do you all think? Is this just another example of Nvidia misrepresenting their product lines by misnaming "new" cards? Or is this the type of feature set that we can expect from the 300-series? Remember- there has been no official indication as yet that the "fermi" chip is a gamer.

Yes... I know the Geforce 310 is a joke. But the point is that they named it a 300-series card.

Before 9400 rename, it's 8500GT/8600 GS i.e. 16 CUDA SPs(G86). Unlike G86 cores, GT210/GT310 has support for DirectX 10.1.

the GT310 is the GT210 its allready been stated several times. Nvidia losing bigtime so they are pretty much cheating to get there new line out. might as well buy an 8600GTS than a GT210. yeah it has DX10.1 but guess what? its out of date and even though ATI did support it there are almost no games that support it. so really its pointless

It really makes me wonder what the "300-series" will end up being.. since this card is officially the first member of that lineup. Maybe more re-naming on the way?

Examples of games that supports DX10.1 are; 1. FarCry 2 2. H.A.W.K. CUDA 1.1 GPUs(e.g. G84/G86/G9x) supports a superset of DX10.0 i.e. it has some DX10.1 features. This is encapsulated as NVAPI i.e. part of NVIDIA's "The Way It's Meant To Be Played".

I think to alot of consumers they've already hit the dirt. I for one was a major nvidia user. I had a 6800ultra at launch, went to 7800 gtx sli, 7900gtx sli, 8800gtx sli.. then I decided to give ATI a try, and I got 4890's in crossfire. I love them. I know this is probably old news but after reading this: http://www.semiaccurate.com/2009/10/01/nvidia-fakes-fermi-boards-gtc/ I dont think I'll use Nvidia cards for a very long time. Unless they pull out some game ending tech, or the mother of all cards, ATI will continue to destroy them. A friend who is in the same boat as me, but still sticks with Nvidia said "Well, even if they did fake it, whats the big deal?" The fact that they had to dupe their consumers is just horrible practice. Im not surprised that they're constantly renaming cards. They have to do something to generate sales. There are alot of people that arent that tech savvy and just think "bigger numbers means faster card!"

As they say once you try ATI you never go back

true for me ,since 9800 pro nvidia doesn't exists for me

their underpowered cards and drivers optimized for ''certain benchmarking tests''

NVIDIA thanks but no thanks

You mean rereleasing the 8 series and calling them 9 series and then discontinuing all of the 8 series products to somehow force us to buy newer cards because we are now forced to buy used cards to sli them with our 8 series? Gotchya.

Exactly, its BS like that that is destroying their consumer base. They've gotten into the habit of slapping a new design on the box and fan shroud and calling it a new card by changing the layout slightly. They're digging there own grave IMO.

it really does not need that much of elaboration. the card is full of BS. GT 310, support for DX10.1 who the hell cares about DX10 in general? also the card is not good in terms of performance, this is exactly like saying that my 8500GT supports DX10

And even if they lie does it means that they dont have better graphics solutions? Just put another 4890 in your rig and see where your limits are. AMD proved that they are able to do the same with their HD 4200.

This claim does not rhyme

jernas

ATI already hit the dirt, they will end up as a co processor in AMDs Vision. Matrox and Nvidia are the last GPU manufacture.

Here's the thing, I dont NEED to put another 4890 in my system, these cards blow away anything nvidia can toss at us in the same price range. If you feel the need to continually toss your money at a company that cant even produce a real card for a release party, then has to lie to you, the consumer about it, be our guests. We're calling it how it is, take your fanboyism somewhere else, come back when you're ready to have a conversation with people that enjoy talking tech. "This claim does not rhyme" ...... really.

I'm having a hard time seeing how anybody who really keeps up with the PC hardware industry could say that ATI has already hit the dirt. Sure, they are now part of AMD... but since they merged they have consistently had the best price/performance gaming GPUs. Not to mention that they currently have the crown in terms of fastest gaming video card period (5970), as well as the 1st (5870) and 2nd (5850) fastest single-gpu cards on the market. Looks pretty solid to me.

hey, is the GTX 285 a single processor card? 'Cause if it is, I think that might be better than my 5850.
