Non sli optimised games will run total poo. If you can overclock the 7950 to proper 7900gtx speeds, well your on to a winner.

The 8800gt is much more worth it.

8600s in SLI would cost about as much as an 8800gt

Actually, it would be about $50USD cheaper to get the 8600GTs. That said, a single 8800GT is still the best performance option.
