Well no I dont already own a GT, i'm looking to buy a card and am wondering whether the GTX is really worth the extra money it costs over the GT. Because there is a suprisingly big price difference.
Thanks a lot (:
In that case maybe you should check for the HD4830, on a few cases its faster than the 9800gt and is cheaper :)Well no I dont already own a GT, i'm looking to buy a card and am wondering whether the GTX is really worth the extra money it costs over the GT. I have a 9800 GTX + with 1GB of DDR3 memory. Most of the other ones have 512mb of DDR3 mem. I really am pleased with my purchase. I am bottlenecking it right now, so I know there's going to be a major performance boost when I upgrade!

im thinking of going for the 9800GT 1gb. the only game that has low FPS is pretty much Crysis....at long as your in the range of 50-70fps you will be perfectly fine. alot of games like COD4 and other newer games run at around 100fps with the 9800gt...its tough to use Crysis as an example because the only cards that REALLY take advantage of the "ultra high" setting is a 3-way SLI GTX but come on who runs that?

There is very little difference between 512MB and 1GB 9800GT, even in high resolutions.

Dont waste money on 1GB, GDDR3 with a 256bit bus cannot use all of it.

So true. You might see a slight bump in performance in high resolutions on the 1GB card over the 512MB card, but hardly worth the extra cash unless you feel the need to spend it. Right now, any card with more then 512MB memory is kind of an overkill unless you want the absolute best out there and you game in high resolutions. The high amounts of memory (over 512MB) is kind of a gimmick to get folks to spend more money on something that doesn't really work any better then the current cards with 512MB memory.
To each their own....I won't bother spending extra cash on GPUs that feature more then 512MB unless I feel the need to or unless that becomes the norm with newer cards.
I would say get the 9800GT 1gb, its well worth the extra Vram. Many games take advantage of the extra vram allowing you to play on higher textures. I'm so happy i got the 1gb version or i wouldn;t even be able to play GTA4 on the settings i am now. On games which do not use the extra vram you won't notice a difference,
To whoever said the 256 bit bus wont let you use all the vram, i'm not sure what your talking about. Vram usage is 98% in GTAIV.

Many games? You sure it isn't just GTA IV?

Except on GTA IV. Reviews had shown it to have more performance with more amount of Vram instead of GPU power a serious WTF :?Please Log In to post.
