So i should be fine to ply Half Life 2, Quake 4 and Doom 3 on high/max settings then? Those are the only really demanding games i have, although i plan to pick up Oblivion, that should run medium settings right?i just saying what my laptop will run. I only game if tried that you listed was half life 2 and counterstrike source. both ran good.
Also, do you think this setup would run S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl?
Thanks for the info.

That won't run at high specs at all, but I think you can at least play it. I had a 7800GS and it ran HL2, Q4 and D3 very good.

my laptop has the geforce 6150 and it can play all current games on med to high settings.j3ninja
I call BS on that statement. Supreme Commander, Call of Juarez, and Oblivion do not run well on true "medium settings" on that GPU.
To the OP: The 7900GS will run everything well on med to high settings depending on what screen you get.
Those specs are nearly identical to my Inspiron 9400, although I bought mine last summer so I only have a Core Duo. The 7900GS is quite a nice card for a laptop.
This page gives a general comparison of the mobile graphics cards. 3DMark performance isn't everything but it's someplace to start - and very few sites benchmark mobile cards.
Basically, the X1400 is not a particularly fast card, scoring 900 3DMarks compared to the 7900GS's 3800.

A 7900GS will run the games you listed easily on high/max, I would see if you can switch to a 7200RPM HDD too...

lol bioshock is going to be a demanding game.
anyway instead of creating another topic.i have the same question as this guy. i just bought a laptop. and these are the things in it. what can i run with this?
Intel core 2 duo 1.66 GHz Dual Core
ATI X1800 video card with 256MB dedicated memory
1GB ram 667mhz 80GB hard drive SATA 8mb cache
its in a alienware laptop. i dont plan to do heavy gaming so i was thinking this is good enough for what i need.will it be able to run Battlefield 2142,and flight simulator x? and maybe CRYSIS!!! or Stalker?!?!?
