In most of the tests, the 9800GX2 outperformed the G280, but not by much. Yes, I know the GX2 is a single cart SLI solution, and therefore can't really be compoared.

Did u expect it to be 2 times as fast as 9800GX2? How much faster was 88GTX compared to 7950GX2 last gen?

I thought it would be better than the 9800GX2 all round but sometimes it is worse than the 9800GTX @1280x1024. That is a disappointment.

Now I'm looking to ATI to provide the next generations cards for me.

I think this card is a total disapointment. The GX2 beats it in every game and it's 150 $ cheaper. There's another review at Anandtech.

Wanna buy! Better than 9800GX2 most of the time, less heat, less power needed, Physx, CUDA, better features, single gpu card ^^. It seems more future proof, doesnt it? I dont know, I need a new PC and a new graphics card, dont know when the ATI ones are going to be released, GTX260/80 seems good to me.

Yet again they use medium settings for Crysis as the main BM, thats so pointless, but atleast they finally have the damn brains to test very high this friggin time. I havn't played Crysis at medium settings yet.

We(people already have one of these cards) are better off buying another 9600GT,8800GT/GTS and sli'ing them and we will be on par with the 9800GX2 or these newer cards and spend alot less.

No, a 9800GTX SLI setup is roughly on par with 1 GTX 260. 2 8800GTS will be a bit slower than that.

Well the 9800GX2 is two GTS's in sli on one board and which the 9800GX2 is beating the newer cards in most games so why not spend another 200 or so instead of spending 500 for around the same performance.

2x8800GTS would beat 1 GTX260 because 2x8800GT beats 1 gtx260 and beats 1 GTX280 sometimes too.

That is not the case with most other games. Crysis is the exception it seems.

According to HardOCP's results in games like COD4 and AC, a single GTX 260 outperforms a 9800GTX SLI setup at places where more memory and bandwidth is required, providing a smoother overall experience. Average FPS might be higher with a SLI setup but gameplay is much more erratic. It goes with the territory I suppose...

The GTX 280 seems too expensive for the performance it gives. The GTX 260 seems more of a good buy.

However we should not judge the in-game performance of the cards yet, due to the drivers. The will by all certainity be improved for release.

They're going the wrong way with new videocards. It uses waaaaay too much watts to run. Can't wait until Intel reaches to competition level of graphics performances.

im not gonna say its not impressive for a single card solution but the 9800gx2 is cheaper and just as powerful and as the benchs show outperfomrs it in some cases. and the price tag of 660$ makes it all the more un appealing just go get a 9800gx2 instead or better yet sli some 8800 gt,gts, gtx(doesnt really matter prices have dropped enough where it still cheaper then this) and get similiar performance. or there always the chance of getting to hd3470x2 for 600$. so really if u have a sli mother board then there are cheaper options that will give close to this performance if not better. but for the rest its this or the 9800gx2. all in all disappointed by nvidia.

looks like ill wait for to c what ati has to offer.

Ive ben saying this for alittle while now. I think its ATIs time to return the favor to nvidia because these benchies are god awful for how much you have to pay for one of these. I know we have yet really to see any of review for ATIs new cards but I have a feeling these will be the best bang for your buck cards.

Does anyone know if the drivers there using for the GTX280 are just beta drivers or the final release drivers???

Beta drivers vs final drivers dont give a great improvement at most 2-3 fps increase and better compadablity.

Check out hardocp review. Teh gtx 280 plays crysis @ 1920x1200 no AA 16x AF while teh 9800 gx2 plays it at @ 1920x1200 no AA 8x AF. Even the gtx 260 is similar to teh gtx 280 performace wise, hence telling me that its drivers and or cpu bottle necking this monster. Its good to be a pc gamer, that is if you have the cash to buy this card. I'll stick to my 8800gtx for a little while more -_-

I agree that there is a bottleneck but mostly from the cpu. Anyone who has an sli setup or a gx2 there is no reason to upgrade, I am looking forward to the sli benchmarks though. Also anyone who does have a single card should just upgrade to sli, if they want that extra performance, it's just that much cheaper. Unless you have 1300 to spend on another sli setup coming from sli thers no point and i'll be skipping this card and waiting for the next. Now wheres those ati benchmarks!?!?!

Edit: Just realized johnny27 sumed it up with reasons to sli :) but I agree

they run on newer drivers that have been said to boost their performance a good amount, at least over the drivers we are running now 175.16 they are on 177 something..

im kinda happy i got two 9800's now, this thing was a dissapointment, i was contemplating selling them to my friends and picking this up, definately not worth it now, waiting on the next gen.

Looks to me ATI is going to grab the market. The 4850 is extremely cheap (199 anyone?) and very good. I don't think I'll fork over 600 or 400 for ether of those cards.

Underwhelming for all the hype nvidia created.

It looks that even 2 4850 in CF should be able to outperfom the GTX280 for a much cheaper price.

Same im either going to go 4850 in CF or 4870 in CF. But I still want to see how the 4870X2 performs compared to two of the 4850/4870 first.

I think nVidia's ego and hype is through the roof. They're releasing cards too fast instead of taking the proper amount of time and steps to create something as worth while as the 8800 series.

If the ATI cards are much better than the Nvidia you can bet those cards will be at a higher price than their recommended price.

Launches like these are why its good to have ATI around, and vice-versa during the 2900xt fiasco

So I hope all NV or ATI fanboys either convert their minds to the path of logic or be silenced

ATI is going to take it back xP (hey I might actually use that crossfire feature now lol! )

I find it ironic...now 9800x2 is actually the best "bang for buck" high end card... specially after all the nasty stuff people had to say about the 9800x2.

The price for the 4850 is going to be ~200.. Its already selling in China for around 220 US bucks. And Amazon accidently posted it early a while ago for $199.

It is about 10% better then the 9800GTX and has the price tag of a 8800GT?.. We will see these FLY off the shelfs... better get it while you can.

We pay a lot more for our stuff in the UK.

260 GTX £293

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-072-BG&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1176&name=BFG%20GeForce%20GTX%20260%20OC%20896MB%20GDDR3%20TV-Out/Dual%20DVI%20(PCI-Express)%20-%20Retail

280 GTX £563.99

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-068-EA&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1176&name=EVGA%20GeForce%20GTX%20280%201024MB%20SSC%20Edition%20GDDR3%20TV-Out/Dual%20DVI%20(PCI-Express)%20-%20Retail

I expect the 4850 to come in at £200 and the 4870 at £300.
