The GTX 460 will work in a PCI-Express slot, which is what your existing 9600gt uses. The question isn't whether or not the motherboard can handle the GPU, but whether or not your PSU can hack it. What make and model of power supply does your PC have?

Alright, so it has a single 6-pin PCI-E power connector. It's also not very good name brand PSU.. I wouldn't put anything more power-hungry than an AMD HD6850 on that thing. A 6850 is slightly faster than a GTX 460 1GB at reference clock speeds, so you won't be losing performance by going that route. The 460's really shine when overclocked, but they really need 2 PCI-E power connectors.

Yes its not that gud brand but is it manage to run GTX 460 normally without any overclocking ? So can i go for GTX 460 for upcoming games like Crysis 2, Dirt 3, Battlefiled3 for that price range ?

I would not trust that PSU with a GTX 460. It probably puts out something like 350 watts max.

The type of VRAM that a GPU uses and the type of system RAM that your PC uses doesn't matter. They don't have anything to do with each other. It will work.. The issue is that you have a pretty low-quality PSU with a single 6-pin PCI-E connector and you want a GPU that can use over 150 watts on it's own. I recommend that you get the AMD 6850 instead of the 460 for your purposes.

Hey , Just saw some game play videos with gtx 460 . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lXC8XrzpaU&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zTjZg4b1FM&feature=related its looks awesome. Now i am also planning to grab that baby :), but price is the only factor.GTX 460 has one 768 MB version too, and many experts says excluding some clock speed drop there is not much diff where 2 cards gives u almost same results with diff price tag .Is it true, if thats the case i thing i wll go for 768 version.

Don't take the 768mb version when you want to play on 1080p on a widescreen. More videomemory comes in handy for higher resolutions.

The PSU should handle it but its recommended to change it out for a better PSU like a Corsair 750HX psu.

A 750 watt Corsair for a single GTX 460? That's massive overkill. Any decent quality 500 watt and up will be more than enough.

I just used a PSU calc and your system which i put in as having 2 HDD's and 3 fans and a DVD-RW uses 320W and when i put in that you had a GTX460 1GB it went up to 385W so your PSU should be fine with that... Even as it's a low quality PSU and probably won't put out 500W safely i think it only being able to output 350W is a bit exaggerating, PSU's have to go by strict quality standards so even cheap tacky ones aren't exactly made of tin foil. GTX 460 will work fine in your machine, don't worry about the "Oh but low quality!!" posts i also use cheap ones and have never had trouble i have a 450W with my 5770 and quad-core chip and i use 334W when i used the PSU calculator.

GTX 460 consumes over 200W when overclocked and running the card on stock really isnt worth it so I would recommend you the 6850.

This. Just get the HD 6850. The performance is basically the same & it uses less power. It also only requires 1 PCI-E connector which means that you won't have to play around with the molex to PCI-E converters.

Definitely the 6850. This card is a beast and in the $250 range. Once overclocked, it's tailing the stock GTX 580. For that price, you cannot go wrong..

I think you are mistaking 6950 with 6850.:P

Overclocked 6850 can match stock 6870 and that's not bad considering it's price and power consumption.

Ok so i planned to buy XFX ATI Radeon HD6850 1GB...So is it perfect for my power supply ? But it dont have any shader speed comparing to GTX460...Also Shader Model for 6850 is 4.1 and 460 have 5.0...Is shader speed and shader model is important for upcoming games ??

the 6850 1gig is faster at stock speeds and it uses very little power compared to the 460 1gig. For your power supply, the 6850 is the best option

Hmm, so at the end 6850 wins, normally people says ATI card works fine and perfect for AMD and nvidea for intel , is there any truth in that, cause i got q6600 and xfx 680 sli board so.... one more doubt , me and greg are barely or unable to play crysis 2 in our 9600 gt even at low res, so if we swtiched to 6850 wat will be the optimum res we can enjoy games like crysis -2, upcoming games bad company -3 and ghost warrior considering the fact that we got mother board that supports ddr-2,800 mhz ram?

ATI cards work well with AMD and with Intel, Nvidia cards work well with Intel and just as good with AMD. I dunno who started spreading this crap around but its completely wrong, both companies cards will work with AMD and Intel equally well.

IMO XFX and sapphire is best for amd cards, but between these two i would choose xfx for the warranty alone. You cant go wrong with xfx from my experience.

When choosing a brand, go with the one that has the best customer support and a solid warranty. Doesn't have to be lifetime and all that jazz because some gamers don't even keep their cards for that long anyways and then they're upgrading again. Unless you want to find out the hard way by calling up customer support only to have no solution for your problem, while taking you 2 months to get a replacement while your friends talk about how much they loved The Witcher 2. :P Just sayin'.

Asus is a very good brand. You can't go wrong with that. I actually prefer Asus over XFX, but I prefer Sapphire for AMD gpu's.

Get a newer generation card of equivalent speed. It'll use less power. My GTX 560 runs fine on my 400 watt PSU. It's probably a ticking timebomb, but it runs fine max load nonetheless.

i know 7770 use less power and require only 1- 6 pin, but 560non ti outperforms it by good margin, so i am gonna stick with 560 non ti, r u sure it really work smooth on 400w. which brand u got!

so the gigabyte powerrock 550w wll be enough for me right?:)

I've got a cheap $15 Dynex PSU from Ebay. When it comes to to the 6-pin, you can get a 6-pin to molex convertor if yours doesn't come with 2 6-pins. 550w should definitely be suitable.
