The GTX 460 will work in a PCI-Express slot, which is what your existing 9600gt uses. The question isn't whether or not the motherboard can handle the GPU, but whether or not your PSU can hack it. What make and model of power supply does your PC have?
My power supply Details : Make - Zebronics Power Supply(Pro-series) , Model - PRO-500W
Little Description abt it told in one website : Zebronics PRO 500W – Complaint with ATX 12V version 2.2. Complaint with latest multi core motherboard and high end graphics cards. Dual +12V rail design stable independent outputs for CPUs, Graphic Card, HDD and ODD for best performance. Honeycomb Ventilation design maximize airflow and keeps power supply and PC case cool. Up to 4 high end SATA connectors for latest HDD/ODD and future expansion. 6 pin PCI-E connector for advace Graphic card power requirement. Complaint with ROHS directive.
Alright, so it has a single 6-pin PCI-E power connector. It's also not very good name brand PSU.. I wouldn't put anything more power-hungry than an AMD HD6850 on that thing. A 6850 is slightly faster than a GTX 460 1GB at reference clock speeds, so you won't be losing performance by going that route. The 460's really shine when overclocked, but they really need 2 PCI-E power connectors.
Yes its not that gud brand but is it manage to run GTX 460 normally without any overclocking ? So can i go for GTX 460 for upcoming games like Crysis 2, Dirt 3, Battlefiled3 for that price range ?
So it doesn't matter that GTX 460 is GDDR5 and my motherboard DG45ID is DDR2...Still it will work ?

The type of VRAM that a GPU uses and the type of system RAM that your PC uses doesn't matter. They don't have anything to do with each other. It will work.. The issue is that you have a pretty low-quality PSU with a single 6-pin PCI-E connector and you want a GPU that can use over 150 watts on it's own. I recommend that you get the AMD 6850 instead of the 460 for your purposes.
The PSU should handle it but its recommended to change it out for a better PSU like a Corsair 750HX psu.Hekynn
A 750 watt Corsair for a single GTX 460? That's massive overkill. Any decent quality 500 watt and up will be more than enough.
GTX 460 consumes over 200W when overclocked and running the card on stock really isnt worth it so I would recommend you the 6850.

This. Just get the HD 6850. The performance is basically the same & it uses less power. It also only requires 1 PCI-E connector which means that you won't have to play around with the molex to PCI-E converters.

Definitely the 6850. This card is a beast and in the $250 range. Once overclocked, it's tailing the stock GTX 580. For that price, you cannot go wrong..[QUOTE="Tezcatlipoca666"][QUOTE="Gambler_3"]

Ok so i planned to buy XFX ATI Radeon HD6850 1GB...So is it perfect for my power supply ? But it dont have any shader speed comparing to GTX460...Also Shader Model for 6850 is 4.1 and 460 have 5.0...Is shader speed and shader model is important for upcoming games ??the 6850 1gig is faster at stock speeds and it uses very little power compared to the 460 1gig. For your power supply, the 6850 is the best option

ATI cards work well with AMD and with Intel, Nvidia cards work well with Intel and just as good with AMD. I dunno who started spreading this crap around but its completely wrong, both companies cards will work with AMD and Intel equally well.
Tell me some top brands for HD 6850...I am having now XFX 9600GT and i really like XFX...So can i go for XFX HD 6850 ??
IMO XFX and sapphire is best for amd cards, but between these two i would choose xfx for the warranty alone. You cant go wrong with xfx from my experience.Tell me some top brands for HD 6850...I am having now XFX 9600GT and i really like XFX...So can i go for XFX HD 6850 ??

watts doesn't matter so much, how many amps can your psu produce on the 12v line? You need at least 35-40SPBoss
Nah. Anything over 28-30 will be fine for a GTX 460 or 6850/6870.

Im also taking the rest of his hardware into account..So am I. Any decent quality PSU with wattage over 450 and 28-30 total amps on the 12-volt rail will be fine.

Do you not see the 'New Topic' button at the top of the board? I suggest you take your question to a new thread, necro'd threads tend to get locked.no idea how to create new thread so trailing the existing one, planning to get 1 gtx 560 non ti for my Q6600, xfx 680sli,2 gb ddr2 pc(no drives eexcept hard disk), conf lies in psu , maax budj is 2.6k and i heard gigabyte powerock 550w 80 plus prised <2.5, not sure abt its performance, any other psu lies at same price? i am india so we have limitation on brands , so pls suggest accordingly.. thx in advance

I've got a cheap $15 Dynex PSU from Ebay. When it comes to to the 6-pin, you can get a 6-pin to molex convertor if yours doesn't come with 2 6-pins. 550w should definitely be suitable.i know 7770 use less power and require only 1- 6 pin, but 560non ti outperforms it by good margin, so i am gonna stick with 560 non ti, r u sure it really work smooth on 400w. which brand u got!
so the gigabyte powerrock 550w wll be enough for me right?:)
