Another crysis graphics card question.

Okay here's the setup first:

Intel Pentium D930 3.0Ghz Dual Core

Geforce 7600GT 256mb Ram

3GB DDR2 RAm

I can run crysis with high settings on everything BUT shadows and shaders. My fps is 20-25 on average. But I want a new card that can play everything on high. Very high would be nice, but definitly not necessary. If I turn everything on high I get 7-8fps. It looks pretty but its a video game not a slideshow game.

Now this is the card I can get: Geforce 8600GT 512mb ram

http://www.bfgtech.com/bfgr86512gtoc2fe.aspx

Also I must point out I play at 1280x1024, that's the max my monitor will go, and I do not plan on getting a monitor that can go higher.

Also I'm getting a 64bit version of windows vista to see if it helps as my processor is 64bit, and I also overclocked my processor to 3.4Ghz, and trying to get to 3.6-4Ghz.

Think this card will get what I want or should I wait?

Do not get an 8600, it makes no sense, if you don't have the money then just wait and save, get an 8800gt or something.

first of all there no need to buy an 8600GT and its price range has now been replaced with the GT really or even get the ATI HD3850 or HD3870 which will perform much better than an 8600...

Really? Is it not that good, it's the best card my store carries right now, otherwise I'm gonna have to order something in from the net.

Thats what you should really do unless you need it right away anyways. You typically end up spending less online (less overhead for the e-tailers). Also I'll recommend the HD3850 as well. Its the best you can do without breaking the $200 mark.

Naw...the 7600GT is the mid-range card of a few years ago thats his real problem here and the 8600GT isn't going to help matters much there. Most games are GPU limited not CPU limited after all..

Don't get that card, its rubbish.

For gaming there is no point getting anything below the 8800GT or ATI 3800.

OKAY GOOD NEWS

I bought a Geforce 8800 GTS 320mb ram, cost more of course, but I might as well, was going to get GTX, but too much money, the guy said it's pointless at my resolution, he also said my processor is holding me back, looks like I'll be getting a processor next.

Why would you say it's the worst? I checked the specs, and there way better then what my card has got.

But worse than both the 3870 and 8800GT and more expensive as well I believe (at least in the case of the 3870).

You hould have ask us right b4 making your decision since if you're not up to date with all the technology news then you might not get your best bang for the buck. Since the debut of the 8800GT 512MB (256MB version in 2 weeks from now) and ATI HD 3870/3850, they'll make some cards become obsolete like the 8600, HD2600...I wouldn't say the GTS 320MB is a bad choice, in fact it WAS the best card in term of price/performance but for the price, you can easily get a faster card now.

Dude, return the 8800GTS asap. Its very good card, but the 8800GT is cheaper and BETTER, I guarantee it.
