Hey! Okay, I've been using this PC for 7 years now (I know... really long time :?)! Anyway, my dad finally caved and we're getting a new one. Now I gave some specs but I'm the worlds greatest noob when it comes to PC hardware and OSs and stuff so I need some help.

These are the stuff that are on the price quota but we wanna improve them:

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz Processor
Gigabyte P35DS3L Motherboard
4GB DDR2 RAM
1TB SATA HDD (2x500GB)
DVD Writer
FDD
Nvidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB PCI Express
Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Now I said that I'm a total noob, but I know for fact that we can improve on the Graphics card and maybe the processor. Now I'm gonna use this for all sorts of things from Photoshop to Gaming but I don't really do programming or anything like that. So really, Web Browsing, Photoshop and Flash and other designing programs and games... Games that run fast.

What I need to know now is how I can improve on this system. Tell me everything which is good and everything which I can change and what I should get instead of what it is I have on there. Price is not an issue. Tell me the best of the best. Another question, do you recommend I switch to 64-bit yet, or should I just stick to 32-bit? As I said, I don't use THAT many non-liscenced programs, so I doubt compatability would be an issue. Either way, tell what I should change and with what sould change it because I really want a good PC.

Thanks alot for your help guys, really appreciate it :D!

If you're thinking of the Q6600, I'd scrap it in favor of the Q9450. More cache, faster FSB, and slightly improved architecture are all nice.

P35 had its time in the sun, but it's time for P45 now. The board you picked out is good, but switch to the EP45-DS3L instead.

The RAM look good, but make sure it's a 2x2GB configuration, not 4x1GB.

Regarding the graphics card, you could do much better. I'd recommend the HD4850 at least, but that really depends on how much you're willing to pay for the best of the best. I personally wouldn't bother with anything higher than the HD4870, but I'm a more conservative type when it comes to PC hardware.

And don't get Vista Ultimate, that's a waste of money. Vista Home Premium 64-bit is the way to go.

BTW hi Rayvinazn haven't seen you much :D

Dual core to go. the best unless ur multimedia enthousiast modding picture. dual core Wolfdale do nice for price
it depend of budget. say a budget if ur america or canadians or england then il try to build it up for you

if ur well awsome wth overlcocking go p35. (but ur a greatest noob so pick up a P45 if you't never gonna crossfire X
If you'r intend to do crossfire Befofre change pc in future get a X48 from DFI / Gigabyte Rather then asus it what i know from my union the CBPCU (costum build pc union )

if you can know ur budget il help you if there a line ya must not cross in $$$ which i know you have one !
and if there a website to save big money is surely newegg / fry computer / tigerdirect for some part if you don't wish to buy all from same place

else you can micmic my hardware spec in my sigs :D costed me a total of 1550$ CAD
but that for 24 inch 1920x1200 mostly having such hardware . else go like rayvinazn say price performances
cause Q9450 is behind E8400 in gaming. But Q9550 overclock is near it. or E8500 / E8600 overclock in most of game of today
while if ur doing heavy work of multi-media like studginy multi-media for Video encoding & 3D Graphic Design then you need quad
and if it was for a quad of today the 299$-320$ Q9550 is Awsome

I already specified that I don;t have a budget, you guys tell me the best stuff and I'll deal with it, but please, use the most simplified name of things and don't really describe things... I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to these things. Just tell me the names of the stuff I should get and I'll do that. I just want something that'll play games really ell and run Photoshop at good speeds. I'm not aasking for some master of editing computer, I'd prefer to be more geared towards games and stuff and then I know photoshop will run fine based on the way I use it.

noctua is down thermalright heatsink 120mm in sold with a KAze fan on it. for your information sordidus :)
and why you recommand corsair ? they not even approved for Crossfire by AMD GAMERS

pick an Antec Quadro power or thermtalke 1000watsat 1000-1200wats much better and approved. for votlages perfect fit with there rails corsair dont' even make there own and i got decalred 3 failure corsair PSU in a month in the same area (ottawa)
they create more might then they say :D

corsair just look good as design Looking but the perofrmances reside in antec / thermtalke / enermax it what i being told.
and it why i went for thermaltake. instead of corsair. corsair ain't soo soo bad tough
better get a ceritifed psu http://game.amd.com/us-en/crossfirex_components.aspx?p=3
Antec
True Power Quattro 1200W (TPQ-1200) 3 3 2 like this one.

"corsair ain't soo soo bad tough better get a ceritifed psu" If "certified" is your problem, Corsair PSUs are "SLI certified" that's why they aren't "Crossfire certified"...

So you buy your components based on marketing gimmicks...? Your case is "SLI certified" you know...? Maybe you should have bought a case that's "Crossfire certified"...

case & psu are different case are airflow. voltage is eletronical : Voltage : rail track ask rayvinazn
AMD Gamer is a offical placce to know it
I being told by sprintcomptuer who did repair several Corsair PSU in a yaer that it broke much more often then thermaltke / Antec by juding the failing rate. when people try to overkill it by run 4870x2 & CF with unrecommendation well ask rayvinazn what he think of all that

And CWR. Corsair HX-1000W / Corsair HX-620W / Corsair HX-520W / Corsair TX-650W = Seasonic

Corsair TX-750W / Corsair VX-550W / Corsair VX-450W = CWR

Sordidus
The HX1000w is made by CWT, and the VX450w is made by Seasonic. Small distinction though.
