I'm investing in a new computer to specifically run The Orange Box. Can anyone give me some good recommendations on what specs to get? Especially on whether to get a 64 bit Vista, 32 bit Vista, or XP with service pack 3.

Well first of all you need to tell us your budget. I would suggest you get 32 bit Vista.

But just to give you an idea of what a decent gaming system will cost:

E6750 $200

P35 MOBO $100

HD 3870 $220 If you can finsd one... otherwise the HD 3850 is a good option for $179

320 GB HDD $75

2gb Crucial RAM $70

DVD Sata $30

450VX Corsiar $80

Case $50

Something like that for around 800-900 will max just about any game besides Crysis at resolutions under 16x12.

The 8600gts is not very good and wont play any games in DX10. Go for the HD 3850 for $180us.

My budget is, preferably, as cheap as possible but the maximum I can spend is around $1200.

You gonna build or buy a pre-built?

$1200? You can go pretty far with that much. I got my build for $800 a year ago and it's still runs many games on high.

I'm trying to get pre-built but if I'm having trouble getting one that fits what I want, then I'll build it. I'll just make it clear right now. I've been tracking Team Fortress 2 for months and I am totally crazy about it. That means I'm willing to do just about anything for as little money as possible to get a new computer that can run the game because the laptop I own right now is junk.
