I'm getting a new laptop (my old one is falling apart as i type) anyway i want something that will be powerful enough to run games like the orange-box, far cry 2, stalker, etc. It's not like i need a super high resolutuon/graphics for these games or anything, but it would be nice if i could get a laptop that would be able to run these games like a 360. (BTW i am an IDIOT when it comes to this type of things so please use simple vernacular.

If possible I recommend buying a Desktop. However to purchase a laptop that can output the same graphic quality as the 360 will be a bit pricey bud, I can be wrong though.

Edit: First I have to know your budget.

First point of advice is.. Don't get a laptop. They always fricking fall apart. Are a pain in the ass to repair and you can't upgrade them. If you absoutley must get a laptop then well... Just get a crappy cheap laptop for work and then buy a console or gaming desktop for gaming.

yeah like in the $1000 - $2000-ish range. Graphics aren't a huge concern i mostly just want to play the games smoothly Without jarring stopping during play.

if you have over 1k budget then spend $200 on a cheap laptop. and blow the rest of your budget on a desktop. Just make sure you get a laptop with alot of battery life and it won't be money wasted. The gaming laptops generally have very poor battery life.

I suggest getting an HP dv5t. It's got great price, performance and portability. You can customize it with an NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT which is pretty good for gaming...

At a price of $1,050 paired with a 9600m GT this notebook really has a great performance to price ratio considering it's a notebook bud. It's currently on newegg.com here's a link:

Here's also a benchmark for the 9600m GT:

Gateway p-17811fx. Has poor battery life http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3373&p=7

And that HP dv5t also has poor batteyr life. I think it's 2 hours and 30 min on a high capicty battery. Which is piss poor.

If your going to get a laptop get a laptop with at least 4 hours+ battery life. And finding a gaming laptop with that amount of battery life is going to be had and expensive.

You can also try getting the Asus M50VM-A1. It's got great processor P8400, very nice card, 9600M GS and 4gb of memory. It scores a bit higher on 3DMark than the HP dv5t and you can actually get decent battery life with it (Around 3 hours).

Do you really need the laptop? You can probably get a better deal for less if you get a desktop.

Look at the specs for newer games like Far Cry 2 (by the way, if you can run that, you can run stuff like The Orange Box just fine). The big question is whether you need a laptop or not. If you do, but you only need portability for stuff like word processing, I would recommend getting a cheap laptop and then building a gaming desktop yourself. This will probably save you money, as a good gaming laptop will likely be expensive. If you don't need the portability, just get a desktop.
