I'm trying to decided on a new monitor somewhere between 23 and 24 inches. This is my first LCD monitor, been on a old CRT for far too long. I'm looking to spend somewhere between $150 and $250. In this price range I'm seeing ASUS and Acer monitors mostly. Is there a huge difference between 5ms and 2ms? I'm gonna use this for gaming and for hooking up my xbox 360. Is 2ms worth the extra money?

Young one, do not judge response time by it's numerical value, judge it by what brand it is. Though you will want to aim with a low response time, different brands use different technology, so 5ms will mean something different from brand B then brand A.

Well, Asus and Acer are both good monitor brands, so chances are, motion blur won't be an issue. If it's between Acer and Asus, I'd probably go with the one with the lower response time, just to be on the safe side.
